How about this as a radical idea. If you don't pay tax (if you should) in this country then you have no say in the way the country is run. You aren't allowed to be a company director, MP, or have any position of influence.

Anyone who espouses national service should come and live in a garrison town, so they can witness at first hand the levels of violence, criminality, domestic abuse, etc. that is fostered by young people serving in the British army.

BUT I am angry that the vote catching aim of this stupid idea is directed at 'old people' assuming they are the flog-em and lock-em-up faction. Most old people I know have far more sense, compassion and reason than many of the younger ones. I doubt many old ones support this idiotic move and go Tory.

What a complete wuckfit, Cleverly the ill-named. Obviously pandering to the fascist tendency in his party and the "Reform UK" morons. Where I am the only party with any hope of unseating Chris Loder are the Lib Dems. We got rid of the Toryscum council, now to get rid of the Toryscum gubermint. Jimmy Dimly

We're still waiting for our full candidate list - neither Tory or LibDems have announced their deposit-loser yet.

We're still waiting for our full candidate list - neither Tory or LibDems have announced their deposit-loser yet. Same here. I only know of a now independent slime-ball who got kicked out of the SNP. A bit tricky up here as we know most of the skeletons in the closet. So if we end up with external (to us) candidates, it's going to be purely a party choice.

Um. How fu**** stupid are these [insert asterisks as you see fit]? FFS are they seriously worried they might win and therefore think as a desperate measure "we have to alienate the youth vote in case the moronic little shits vote for us"? www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cpddxy9r4mdoRead the small print - it's one weekend a month, and clearly a pathetic attempt to pander to the older Conservative Party members who believe that it's the cure to all the country's social problems. If implemented, I foresee it costing a fortune to administer and enforce and hence likely to be quietly abandoned at the earliest opportunity.

You aren't allowed to be a company director, MP, or have any position of influence. And perhaps not allowed to be a criminal too. As is so often the case, ideas hat appear sensible will prove to be unenforceable. However, the regulations about being a company director are long overdue for change, since many are criminals too.

I live in the constituency of a junior minister who has managed to have various roles under various Conservative Prime Ministers (he is rarely seen locally, but appears for photo opportunities for worthy causes). His great skill appears to be able to survive changes in the PM whilst appearing to support each one without then being cast into the void by his/her successor. I have heard him speaking or Radio 4 a few times in his 'minister' role, and he always manages to avoid saying anything profound that may one day embarrass him - clearly a skilled politician.

"clearly a skilled politician." is there really such a thing? My definition of the majority of politicans is "useless posturing twats"

Clearly a skilled politician...Brown nosing, grease balling, scheming, conniving, untrustworthy, self centred...think I got most of them without mentioning questionable morals and honesty...

I am angry that the vote catching aim of this stupid idea is directed at 'old people' assuming they are the flog-em and lock-em-up faction. I have heard it said that the reason the "triple lock" was kept on this year is older people are more likely to vote Tory so they must appease the old dears Well thanks Mr Sunak for the rise in my pension, not it is now adequate to do more than survive on yet alone actually quit working and retire on but frankly.... If it came down to voting Tory or having a red hot poker inserted in my rectum I'd have to consider my options
