Finally got around to doing my quick and dirty look at seats vs should-have seats (assumes a party list system of PR):
GE-2024 by SteveH, on Flickr Lots of rounding errors as I only looked at those that got more than 5,000 votes - about a third of the total. Raw data from here, the .PDF file.
One thing it does show is that if you can field loads of candidates, ie you have loads of money, you can get enough votes to get several seats.
I hope Farage never does a similar 'analysis', do we really want him on the side of PR? 
Good work, Steve. However, I think that ship [bold highlight] has sailed, as Reform have already called for PR (before the GE).
Not a movement with which (most) PR supporters want to be associated - I quite agree.  It's why the left were er crapping themselves in France |

We have a party list system here, but to get a seat you either have to reach 5% of the vote, or win one of the electorate seats. In our current parliament we have one party (New Zealand First) which is there because they reached 5%, and another (Maori Party), which won electorates, but gained less than 5%.
The Maori Party won more electorates than proportionality would allow. To make up for this - to maintain proportionality - we have 3 "overhang" seats. The current parliament has 123 seats, where the normal number is 120.

Just popped back to see what’s what here and saw this thread…
No real reason for saying this but I’ve not watched ANY news since the GE nor have I read any papers either. I’m totally oblivious to what’s currently happening outside of my bubble. The BBC propaganda throughout the GE was grotesque, I vowed I would never again subject myself to such bias one sided reporting.
I don’t even watch the TV these days, it’s appalling. My screen time is taken by either YouTube or Netflix. Though the iPhone I bought my son came with 3 months free trial of Apple TV, but we won’t be renewing after it expires.
As for labours win… Couldn’t care less if I tried. The UK is a disgrace and labour will make it doubly so.
