As I quoted above - the plane is leased for exclusive use of for the use of the prime minister, other ministers and VIPs. I repeat, it is leased for the above use. It isn't a scheduled flight. I think you could argue that the PM's wife is a VIP? I'm guessing HMR are well aware of the lease of the aircraft and its ppurpose. So why the query? It's not just the plane it's all the other expenses too. In terms of the plane I guess that it would be argued that adding Mrs S as a passenger added no cost. Equally I have no idea at all about who pays the rest of the expenses.
The query arose because of my own experience and, as I later said, my son's intention to take his spouse on trip quite soon. I'm not going into family business, but when Willien mentioned paid activity, that piqued my interest further.
I will admit that I also wondered whether Starmer was starting to put his nose in the trough!

I do not to legal advice free or otherwise. I think that an entirely reasonable response. I also think that a Tax expert might be the appropriate person to consult

I really don't see how Mick can compare the two scenarios anyway. They are quite different
Anyway, for us ordinary folk, 'business expenses' are always of interest to HMRC. Itt's all a game.

I freely admit that, apart from any personal interest, my cynicism about the honesty and greed of politicians, all politicians including our PM. remains undiminished.
How many times have I read, on this forum, that there seems to be one rule for 'them' and a different rule for us. I wondered if that was in play.

Only definitive answer is from the employers' accounts department. If their answer is not what is wanted then the obvious options are a) suck it up, b) raise a grievance, c) take legal action. My personal advice would be (a).

Would you ask or take advice from someone you didn't know and whose qualifications are unknown? OTOH if someone makes a statement about 'the rules' it's not unreasonable to request a source. That's not asking advice.
Enough of this.

Sorry Willien I just can't resist - how much do you want for that advice?
Honestly no offence intended - you have made me laugh and I'm genuinely grateful.

I did not mention rules or claim knowledge of the rules. I am not and never have been any sort of accountant. I said what was I consider to be normal. This from watching the news where when Heads of governments get together for formal important knees ups the WAGs are frequently along often shown in group WAG photographs. I.e. Starmers Mrs. going with him is not in any way shape or form unusual but rather appears to be perfectly normal for his job and the purpose of the trip.
Similarly, after one States trip, when Blair was PM, there were very public calls, reported in the news, for Booth to pick up part of the tab as she had done some paid work while over there - public speaking IIRC. I do not recall any conclusion as to whether it was adjudged she should pay up or indeed did pay up but the cynic in me says neither Blair nor Booth would part with a red cent if they could get away with it.

Personally I donât give a fig, she was there as supportive wife. I donât care about who pays for her ticket and I find the whole debate to be petty and infantile but it gives those who enjoy moaning something to do.
