Sunak v Starmer. Byden v Trump. And it gets worse. Look at France. Look at Italy. look at Iran. The worlds politicians have gone MAD. (Well not quite, Italy is just mad.) I nearly forgot 'Little fat man'; he's gone MAD.

Our local Labour candidate has circulated a pamphlet claiming that there were only 271 votes between Labour and Tories at the last election. At the last parliamentary election (2019) There was a Conservative majority of 7643 in Rushcliffe. I don't know where he got his figure of 271. Full results of the 2019 election are here commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-8749/ . Incidently kate 's constituency was nowhere near the last to declare. It declared at 02:37 .The constituency electorate was only 21,106. That is the smallest constituency in the UK.

Having said that, I think it's legally acceptable to lie in election materials - I seem to recall that previous attempts to challenge false statements in election broadcasts/pamphlets went nowhere.

Highly amused to spot a large roadside poster for Conservative Victoria Prentis that had had two letters obscured with tape.

That's what our local libDems did, to try and get the tactical vote away from Labour.

I have sent the following to James Naish copied to Ruth Edwards. "Hi James where do you get 271 votes from in the difference between Labour and Conservatives in the last election? The Conservative majority for the last Rushcliffe parliamentary election was 7643. I am not yet accusing you of telling porkies since there might be such a difference in a borough or parish council election. However I find your claim a bit naughty. Regards John Youngs" Hopefully I might get a response from a minor volunteer from both parties.

A response "Hi John, Thanks for your email. The "last" election was the May election this year when just under 35,000 people voted (c.37% turnout) for the East Midlands Mayor. All the major parties were part of this including Green and Reform and Independents - none of whom ran at the general election in 2019 (when it was just Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrats). The link to the results is here: www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/elections/election-results/We realised an hour after going to print last week that we should have included an asterisk with the date and election details, rather than just saying "last". The leaflet was turned around in 8 hours from start to finish and the proof-reader who spotted the mistake was on holiday and so didn't see the email until it was too late. It wasn't intentional not to provide this level of clarity. Kind regards, James"

Rishi Sunak "Labour will cause irreparable damage within 100 days".
Liz Truss "hold my pint".

Anas "my family's firm don't pay the minimum wage" Sarwar keeps popping up in YouTube ads this morning, something about change. It's muted and I'm ignoring so I couldn't tell you what change he's talking about though.

Given that round here if the deceased parrot from the Monty Python sketch was standing (nailed to the perch) with a red rosette pinned to it, it would be our next Labour MP (And do about as much for us as the last one did) unsurprisingly I have not seen much activity from the main parties but a fair bit of canvassing from the extreme left. Today there was Halima Khan whose main policy seems to be "Get rid of Labour" going down the main road in what looked like a jeep that had been left in wash too long and shrunk armed with a loudhailer and being completely ignored by people more interested in the football
Our new MP lives in Ruislip and is obviously being rewarded for all those years of working for the Labour party by being put in what may be the safest seat in the UK although I gather from a friend she may lose votes from some of the more conservative Muslim's around here just because she's a woman even though she is one herself

We continue to be plagued with LibDem paper - inundated!
The other day, the Postle delivered a slew of leaflets from the Greens and other n'er do wells. Also had another from the Tory (Rishi clone) but it seemed to be a 'national one' rather than local.
A LibDem gain is my prediction.
