Baked Camembert, with relish and sourdough, followed by lamb rump with parsnip fondant, potato puree, charred leaks and a wine jus. Finished off with ginger cake pudding with orange custard. Washed down with a white Rioja.

When we were 'oop North recently SWMBO said that she would like to go back. If you think that the theatre restaurant is OK we might combine a meal with other attractions.

My mother was a cook (someone called her 'chef' once...and only once) in a successful village pub. People would travel many miles for her handmade pies and traditional pub fare. Her boss suggested putting arty bollocks names on the menu. She told him he could do the cooking if he did.

Mick Yes, at Salford Quays. The restaurant is OK, but we have only used it pre theatre, so not sure when it is open at other times. They charge £30 for a 2 course dinner or £35 for 3. They seem to change the menu regularly too. It was different to when we were there a month or 2 ago. It is ideal for pre theatre, but I wouldn't go out of my way to go there. We went to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake ballet. All the swans in his production are unusually male. It was the first time I have been to a ballet, and I must say it was brilliant and I won't resist my wife's attempt to get me to see one again.

Why do folk insist on messing about with the traditional.
Recently I was offered bread and butter pudding - one of my favourites. It turned out to be a mess of brioche with a jar of Nutella. No fruit, nothing from the 'proper' recipe. It was horrible.
Same goes for men being swans!!!! I expect to be taken to task for that opinion.

Both my mum (who we took) and my wife have seen the original version. They both loved the difference, the sheer power that the men showed when dancing. But does it make any difference what sex the dancers are?

Oh and it’s probably done to piss off old folk stuck in the past and not willing to accept that things change.😉

Given that in a typical cast of Swan Lake there are only two characters that are female (and there's no reason why they can't be male), why should all the 'swans' be female?

If someone wants to see men dancing as swans then fine - but let them write and choreograph their own ballet.
If Beethoven marks a sonata adagio no-one plays it presto. I'm afraid that i amstuck in the mud.

Where does it specify that Swans must only be female?

Where does it specify that Swans must only be female? Might be implied from the fact that they do not spend the entire ballet pecking lumps out of each other?
Yes I do realise that could apply to pens too.
