I have mentioned that my sister has a terminal diagnosis. Here's an abbreviated conversation with a hospital doctor yesterday. Sis: I'm a bit breathless and my ankles are swollen. Doc: We should investigate for heart failure Sis: Could it be anything to do with the tumours on my lungs Doc: Tumours? What tumours? I find that quite unbelievable. Mick Sadly some in the medical profession don't read the patient's notes, whether it's due to a lack of time or just concentrating on their specialism, I don't know.

The same recruiter I was muttering about earlier messaged me yesterday to see if I wanted him to push my CV for another role at the same company.
OK, read the job spec. I have no experience whatsoever in two of the first three requirements - the big important ones at the top of the page - and don't have the qualification called for (one of those that are essential for registration). Yeah, right, that's going straight in the bin when someone reads it. I think he's got a target to meet, frankly.
Heard nothing from the interview - TBH, I'm not that bothered, when the ad says "Oxford, Cambridge London" and the interview says "The whole UK, Baltic states and Benelux", and I wasn't looking forward to getting into London, yeah, feck 'em.
And nothing from the recruiter about the company I referred to as bawbags. Quelle surprise, their communication has been apalling even for scientists.
As of a week today I will be officially unemployed for the first time in 9 years. TBH I'm still less stressed about it than I was in the job. I'm just hoping the other senior sceintist finds something very soon, because that will dick my former boss right over as they *were* good friends. I think that has rapidly gone West.

Shoddy materials. I ordered some new rope for the winches on my cattle Hoof trimming crush as the old ones were showing some wear/fraying. Bear in mind I'm dealing with beasts weighing 750kg or more. The new rope snapped three times. Just ordered some Dyneema™ rope as a replacement. Hopefully with a breaking strain of 10,000kg it'll be up to the job.

That's nuts - if it's being sold as fit-for-purpose, that's appalling, failure could be very nasty indeed.

I suppose they argue breaking strain vs snatch.
Dyneema is good though. Use it on the tree winch.

Came off bike and the helmet did it's job... ...think I might have found some oil or diesel on the road and went down like a sack of tatties at a junction. Skint knee, elbow and knuckles, busted helmet as my head hit the tarmac and broke the bit of the front brake that cuts power to the motor when you pull the brake...but I've already fixed that by disconnecting the wire for now.

Helmets are pretty much essential wear. I was out cold for a fair old time when I came off on black ice. I came to just in time to greet the arriving ambulance crew called by a local who heard the crash. Helmet was cracked so it needed replacing. I hope your sore bits heal over quickly, it sounds like you had a near thing there.

Only the second time I've smashed a helmet and last time I don't remember the impact, just the lying in a puddle and taking a moment before trying to move.

Glad the helmet has done its job. Hope you don't have any delayed concussion type issues.

I find that quite unbelievable. Mick I don't. Dave was once asked how long his hands has been like that "It's congenital" Reply:"Yes but how long have they been like that?"

Came off bike and the helmet did it's job... Good It never ceases to amaze me how many cyclists don't wear helmets-okay that's their choice but I often see them with their small kids riding alongside or with them and they're not wearing them either Ditto horse riders when I used to ride the head groom made us wear our riding hats even when leading horses out to the fields, she said she knew someone who was kicked in the head under those circumstances when the horse reared suddenly
