Yeah I've seen those, but there's no way you're getting the tube out without getting at least one side of the tyre off the rim and that's just not happening whilst connected. I might have a look at foam inserts, as on that bike I'm not really worried about rolling resistance or weight. Is that a challenge? Good luck with the hub motor Pete...might also need to cut and replace zipties although hopefully if it's a bought rather than adapted ebike you'll get away with having to prise some c-clips off. The ones I usually get to work on have something like 21mm nuts and there's not much chance I'd be carrying a spanner that big on a ride so I tend to recommend slime tubes there. It's a Canondale Topstone Neo gravel bike with Mahle X35 system so a dedicated e-bike. The hub nuts must be something like 21 or 22 mm across flats but take a 10 mm hex key too. I assumed it was a through axle threaded into the frame so that one hex key is enough to undo it but I'll have another look. I haven't been out much lately so I'm riding the other bike, Cannondale Synapse Neo 3, which has a Bosch central motor. That has through axles with 5 mm hex key.

A quick google suggests it's a threaded axle with bolts and torque washers. Definitely worth a practice when you're not up against it to familiarise yourself with the extra faff. I usually take the drive side bolt completely off the axle otherwise it might not clear the derailleur but you might be luckier with your bike.

Bloody Covid, has anyone heard of Viral Rebound? I developed Covid the other week, went on anti viral meds and it cleared. I now appear to be suffering Viral or Paxlovid rebound, meaning I have Covid symptoms again, plus a chest infection. GP advice is to stay at home for a few days and take antibiotics. Bloody hell, what is going on ?

Yes, I had it earlier in the year - minimal covid symptoms because I hit it with Paxlovid, but the most unpleasant cold I've ever had, for 3 days after the antiviral ran out.

I've had Paxlovid before, but never had Rebound before, and it's just hanging on like a nasty cold, but the viral load is too small to give a positive test result.

Recruiters who appear to think that "That is a huge red flag, I will never do that, please make sure my file says that!" means "Ooh yes, I really want to do that, keep sending me the same job details I've told you I won't do!" I am hoping the phrase "...72 point bold text NO" might get the message across. I think he might have got there... I don't think he has any background in science, which can't help. I've just spent most of the day compiling a CV (to do this, you stare at your keyboard until your forehead bleeds) for a role which might also include said red flag, so if confirmation comes back that it does, I won't even use the bloody thing.

I had my pupils dilated for an eye exam today. Sods law after two weeks of gloom and overcast there hasn't been a cloud in the sky all day. #RoyOrbison

I thought it was only the government down here that was utterly useless? What a crock of $hite. You have forgotten that all politicians, especially the professional ones, are rank amateurs at running a country. They require no formal qualifications and receive no training for their role. Their job is to talk, which most of them are very good at, about subjects of which they may be ignorant. Many of them are driven by an ideology rather than empathy or understanding. Fortunately we are occasionally blessed with a politician who really understands their business.

Politicians don't run the country - civil servants do. Politicians set the conditions for them...

I have mentioned that my sister has a terminal diagnosis. Here's an abbreviated conversation with a hospital doctor yesterday.
Sis: I'm a bit breathless and my ankles are swollen. Doc: We should investigate for heart failure Sis: Could it be anything to do with the tumours on my lungs Doc: Tumours? What tumours?
I find that quite unbelievable.

Mick After what happened to my MIL in hospital (which resulted in her death), where they weren't aware of another well document, diagnosed condition that she'd had for many years, ignorance of which, killed her, nothing surprises me. I was given meds a few years ago, and on checking the drugs, saw that it was penicillin, to which I am allergic. Phoned the doctors and they said it wasn't flagged on my notes. What the same doctors that diagnosed me with the penicillin allergy many years ago and told me that taking it could prove fatal as each reaction can get worse? So unfortunately, yes I can believe it.
