This financial year I have sold all my non ISA shares in my former employer, a bank, due to the falling dividend tax allowance. I made a loss on all of them. I sold most of them at the end of last week as they started to drop assuming that a labour Gvt. - prospoect of windfall taxes etc. would not bode well for bank shares. This week they have continuesd to rise and when I checked a few minutes ago they were only a fraction of a penny under what I paid for them. The vast bulk of the company's shares are held by institutions like pensions funds. My assumption is the markets are happy to see the back of the tories and are comfortable with a massive labour majority.

Right? Stands because they've not got many seats? Just overheard someone in the cafe* bemoaning the labour win and scaremongering about folk will have to pay for universities soon. Whit a numptie! *been working in the bike shop this morning because of holidays.

I don't know why some bemoan the lack of an effective opposition. Hello? The effective opposition to any Government in the UK, is the banks, the financial institutions, the stock market, our foreign owners and lenders. That is the opposition to any moves/changes any Government tries to implement. The organisations and people you mention can only lobby and brief from the sidelines. The official opposition can only criticise and debate. The effective opposition can obstruct and delay. The effective opposition never accept their own blunders; ministers carry the can. The effective opposition is the Westminster Blob.

Obviously, the Beeb is hoping that they can get through this Parliamentary term without admitting that the Tories lost.

Well, technically they haven't. The Conservative and Unionist party lost, but the next PM is still a Tory.
