I've yet to see anyone slagging off the Z6iii with posts about how any old DSLR can be bought for a fraction of the price etc. etc. Wonder why? Quite possibly because no DSLR can match its video performance and, apparently, the biggest selling point now is video. Plenty of posts on DPReview from people finding fault, despite obvious never having so much as touched one (it won’t be available for another week, 28 June 24). Pentax cameras are very definitely aimed at stills photographers. And none of the 17's competition (half frame film cameras) can touch it for performance. *Shrug*

Perhaps some of us already own an old DSLR with which we are happy, and have more important things to do with our limited funds that buy the latest camera that will be obsolete within few months (if not already because is successor has already been designed). Personally, I abandoned the megapixel/takes pictures in the dark/takes 10 shots a second race at 16 megapixels about 10 years ago.

I'm still happy with my 19 year old Minolta 5D and also similar vintage A200 compact (which used to live in the car)

And none of the 17's competition (half frame film cameras) can touch it for performance. *Shrug* What competitors? Actually none, directly. A slew of plastic/toy cameras, some Lomography options at a range of price points, a host of 3d printed cameras from guys in sheds, or I think you can still buy a film Leica. It's the only one of all these (bar the possible Leica) to have all of: proper build quality, an excellent lens, auto-exposure, and a full warranty. So you really could say it's in a league of its own.

As somebody has already said, many of these will be purchased for posing with. If this proves to be the case, look out on eBay for fake ones that are hollow and just make the right noise when the button is pressed.

Thomas Heaton’s latest Youtube video has him in America shooting with the Pentax 17. After a few initial reservations, he seems to like it.
