I think the rumoured new Rollei 35, full frame, AF and manual wind, sounds interesting. Not rumours, that's confirmed, but it's a licenced name, nothing officially Rollei. It looks like a fairly faithful re work of the design for the modern film user, truth be told I always liked the look of the original Rollie 35 cameras and handled a few of them but have never owned or used one. There was nothing original about the Voigtlander L39 / M mounts or the similar Zeiss cameras which did not make them bad cameras, as you well know Cosina had a finger in a lot of premium cameras even before that time.

It is mentioned in the latest AP, which unusually arrived promptly on a Saturday, and appears to be aimed at smartphone owners who want to try real photography using film (wait until they find out the cost of this), because Pentax believe that the portrait format of the half frame images is one of its attractions. I have owned and used Pentax kit since 1980, and suspect that this may be another doomed attempt to be different and trendy. You are probably correct. This is a camera brand that has totally lost the plot imho. I'm not sure that's not an unreasonable view by Pentax . The portrait viewpoint of the half frame is the same style of the smart phones their target market is using . I don't think it's aimed at manly camera users who's main use is landscape orientated. Add onto that twice as many shots per roll as full frame and that's a other selling point . I'll not be getting one , when I want to use half frame , I load up my Olympus Pen EE . I can't see the Pentax doing anything that doesn't . But for film I use either AF or MF SLRs , medium format SLRs or TLRs, or large format . If I'm going to use film , I typically want something that my digital doesn't offer .

Despite the rumours saying it will be named '17', the rumours also say launch on the 18th June. Missed opportunity if true.

Well it isn't conventionally good looking, but the top plate is pretty cool. The user who has broken the embargo didn't have any decent sample pictures on their first look video, hopefully we'll get a better idea of lens quality tomorrow.

Looks like it's the morning of the 18th in Japan but 17th here, they are promoting a 22:00 CEST YouTube video premiere. Having seen more info now, I actually rather like it. But will it cost too much, and will it perform?

£499, and some of the samples look great, up there with Pen F perhaps.

That would make it around $1000 here. I could buy 5 or so good working Pentax SLRs for that.

At £499 the only takers for this one will be those with plenty of disposable income. Their best bet is to try to push it to the so called influencers who have created a kudos for certain Fujifilm models.

Wex have it in stock and you can have one by tomorrow. It seems that there is no long list of people wanting this.

Exchange rate maybe, I've seen a lot of interest online. Alternatively they are showing in stock in error; it was reported deliveries start in July.

*Just* received an email from another supplier to say theirs have just arrived having been released by German customs, so it appears they are good to go. Having launched 2 days ago it's hardly unsurprising that they aren't all accounted for already.

I just can't see who would actually want this, if I want a compact i can pick one up for small change in a charity shop.
