Thanks for that - I think... Having absorbed the salient points, I think I shall go and mix myself a sangria, and pretend I am on a Spanish summer holiday - but back in the sixties.

I didn't think it was that interesting but there doesn't seem to be much else to go on. It certainly doesn't change my view on boggy and wooded uplands managing the flow of water though.

To me the interesting data was in the projections of rainfall and temperature. It looks to me as if the country is going to need a lot more reservoir storage, because the winter rainfall is mostly going to run off and leave the land hard and dry, and the rivers flooding continuously unless the water-flow can can be regulated.

That's what the boggy uplands should be doing.

Foggy morning here with a heavy dew dripping off every surface. At least the temperature is above freezing.

A pleasant summer's day here - a light breeze and temperature in the mid 20s.

We have another pleasant summer's day here, mild and partly cloudy. Auckland, though, 1000km or so north of me, has just had its heaviest rainfall ever - 249mm in the 24 hours to 9am today. That's 10 inches of rain...

Heavy damage in Auckland, from the rain - there could be 5000 houses uninhabitable. There is another similar rainstorm predicted for early next week. Meanwhile, we have a pleasant day, with a week of fine days coming up.

Highest rainfall recorded since records began.

We have another fine day - a little more windy than I like. Meanwhile, Auckland is waiting for yet another storm to hit, later today. It could be as bad as the previous weekend. They also have a political storm, with their mayor, elected last year, proving to be as useless as his detractors predicted. Yet another reason not to let rightwingers with lots of money put busnessmen into positions of power.

I have a nasty feeling about tonight's storm passing over us. It has started to wind up now. Thermos filled. Phone charged, kindle the same. I'm not usually feeling so apprehensive, but for some reason tonight is different.
