Well, a surprise, at least.
Anyway, I got a replacement credit card this week; wow have they changed it!
There is no embossed text. The front, in portrait format, has just the MasterCard blobs (no text), the Lloyds horse, the name of the bank and a view of the chip. It has a notch at the end of the card opposite the chip end, to make things easier for the blind. The back, landscape format, has all the usual stuff (name, numder, dates, etc). But printed (apparently lasered) rather than embossed. It does look odd.
I do wish they'd warn me in advance when they do things like this - I thought it might be some sort of trick at first!

When I got mine I thought it convenient that I did not have to do any activation. Then thought, if it had been intercepted en route...

You may recall a few years ago the whole visa system went down and none of the card readers worked. I was in Tesco and had to give the embryo working there a lesson on the card swiping thing with the carbon paper (they obvs kept a load in case of emergency) I wonder what they’ll do now, now that they don’t have raised numbers.

Lock you in until the tills work again...however you will be allowed one bottle of water and one single packet of own brand crisps (prawn cocktail flavour) every two days that you are delayed. This was in the small print of your revised credit card agreement...what do you mean you didn't bother reading it...that was rather foolish of you...

According to t he TV advert, the Chase bank credit card has no numbers on it at all, it's all in the app.
I don't like the way things are going, towards forcing apps/smart-phones on people and so forth.
Paranoid? Moi?

Paranoid? Moi? With you on that, I wanted to install a doorbell camera, bought one and then found out I'd need an Android app and/or Amazon Alexa and "Firestick" and software that would only run on Windows 11.

I've just checked my wallet. I have six twenties and two fivers. All are current plastic notes. They should cover any supermarket bill should the credit card system crash. I think that they have been there for at least one year and maybe longer.

You don't need the raised numbers or a click-clack machine. They're just a time saving device. You can fill in a card slip manually. The biggest flaw in that system is nothing to do with the banks or the retailers. My wife hasn't had to do a manual transaction in a while, but you'd be amazed how many people haven't used the most basic security device on their cards, that make them useless in this situation. They then seem surprised when the cashier won't accept their payment when they have just signed it in front of them (technically the cashier should retain the card to prevent fraud).
