ID cards? Yes, with a few caveats.
The enormous database the govternment will insist on linking it to, available to any government department that asks, not to mention the CIA, NSA and any private company that stumps up the loot? No.
Of course ID would need an associated database. Photos from every five years from birth (or entry to the UK), DNA, finger prints, all addresses used with dates, criminal convictions, criminal warnings and those funny things that can given by local council jobsworths, link to the NHS by NHS number plus anything else that has a database in which we might appear. To handle such a database would require a company with superlative expertise in government IT. I would suggest Crapita.
Not Fujitsu then...Group 4 might be a candidate...hang on doesn't Mrs Rishi know someone in IT... If not there's a guy who drinks in Matt Hancock's local who'll do the job cheaply |

It was a first for me last week, didn't show my passport when flying, did driving licence instead. From where to where? Westray to Papa Westray perhaps? Moscow to Tehran via Pyongyang. |

From where to where? Westray to Papa Westray perhaps? I did loads of internal flights before I had a passport or driving licence. Work ID badge was accepted. Same with me, except that the airline had issued the ID card. |
