The problem with todays theme for me is not knowing whether that plant in my garden is a weed or proper plant. I have some that are nice and colourful but are probably weeds!

I was out on the bike yesterday (and didn't fall off) and passed a point where someone had spread seeds over the verge. I don't know what they were plants/wildflowers (aka weeds) - but an absolutely spectacular display for 50 yds - which would put many a hanging basket to shame for not being colourful enough. It was quite stunning. I must work out how to carry a camera on the bike.

The problem with todays theme for me is not knowing whether that plant in my garden is a weed or proper plant. I have some that are nice and colourful but are probably weeds! Compared to some of my family I am not a great gardener, living on London Clay and not spending as much time in the garden as I should are amongst my many excuses.
One definition of a weed is simply 'A plant growing where you don't want it to'. We have cyclamen popping up all over the garden which are very pretty when in flower but I did not put them there, we have various sedums and other small hardy succulents growing in the path which have escaped from a butler sink. Similarly the chives I have shown before are now established in the path and come back every year, they came from a small pot of chives which I struggled to keep alive, obviously some of them set seed and are flourishing in a place that is quite inconvenient.
So quite a broad topic even before you get to the wild and re wilded natives.

Some of the afore mentioned Cyclamen, we did originally plant them but they are now popping up all over the back garden, a pretty plant in a place it should not be. Hardy Cyclamen. by Keith Hudson, on Flickr

IMO if we like it where it's growing it's not a weed. This can give rise to some dual classifications, brambles by the roadside aren't weeds (they're blackberries), but in the garden they are!

I made it up the road. They have restyled the community garden as a haven for wildlife - orginal. Bindweed over nettles - a fine mixture DSCF4831.jpg by Pete, on Flickr a fair collection of invasive weeds DSCF4822.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Couldn't figure this out. The Cow Parsely is still in flower while this is finished. Pretty big (taller than me by a long way) but I don't think it is Giant Hogweed although it is of that family. As if by magic, more bindweed. Taken in Hampstead three weeks ago and edited today. Hampstead L1000268edit14july by Keith Hudson, on Flickr The ancient Canon 35mm f/2 LTM lens used wide open did not do too well with the bright flowers. Still it is a look I suppose.
