S One of the things I miss no longer living next to 300 acres of water meadow is the birds whistling over after dark, even over the North Oxford traffic you could hear them loud and clear in their thousands. It was magical at dawn and dusk, I remember going out very early once to a hard frost making the grass like glass, but by the time I went out again the only sign was the black hoofmarks left by the fiery steeds of the wild hunt.
