At last someone with a voice has said it!
IMHO it's a self evident truth that there are times in a country's economic cycle when living standards will fall . I believe I said as much in an early thread on here but can't find it.
What I've just written follows inevitably from a discussion (in the old AP days I think) that goes along the lines that on a planet with finite resources, constant and unbroken growth isn't possible.

I thought from the title this might be a reflection on the death of Harry Belafonte.

I've been poorer for years since interest rates almost went negative. I'll never catch up. As for the general economic state? As long as we have the wealthiest running the country, they will win and we will lose. As long as socialist ideals are mocked, we will be the poorer. As long as we fail to make products wanted and needed by the world, we will continue to slide into poverty. What we need is a French revolution. However, it seems that the population being so used to being controlled in actions and deeds, cannot see they could have the power to stop it all.

Isn't it a good thing we got all that austerity out of the way under Call Me Dick in 2011, so now we can relax and bask in the prosperity. Oh, hang on a mo...

You mean the bleak windswept karst where the only birdsong is twa corbies?

I've been poorer for years since interest rates almost went negative. I'll never catch up. Regardless of where the savings interest rate is, you're losing. Any apparent "profit" from interest is always illusory, because it's always below inflation. But, you already know all this, Kate(!)..... it's just a big stitch-up.
Life experience has taught me that the safest approach is essentially to consider any dealings with any of our financial institutions, as simple extortion.

I agree, giving everyone more money increases inflation and the earth must have a carrying capacity for humans. Apparently the UN prediction puts the number of humans peaking at over 10 billion in about 60 years or so.

I expect that most of us here are poorer. I am poorer in the value of assets but richer numerically because I spent B A during lock down. Also Nikon released nothing to entice me away from my DX cameras and lenses. Of course there are rich people who have got richer and many are envious. See how public sector unions react. Good socialists the lot of them. Do they care a {insert own expletive} for the common man or woman or alphabetic weirdo? Do they {insert own expletive}. At least when they retire they will get fully indexed linked pensions.

Pills, and anyone who thinks there's nothing wrong with what he said, can get in the effing sea. Those at the bottom know they are poor, whilst those at the top try to take more and more from them, whilst telling them to just accept it. Handbags.

That would be an understandable reaction, Andy..... but for the fact that those who actually ARE in charge of the country's money are (much) worse.

The career prospects of the person who dared to say this won't be very good, since stating the obvious and unwelcome truth is not valued anymore.
