Yes, I have you to thank for an interesting voyage through a variety of crazy sour beers. They are the closest brewery to my home, and I really like their beer. This one was interesting, strong vanilla smells but the dark berry and sourness stopped it from being overbearing. Quite thick texture too. A thumbs up from me. I've had a good number of their releases in the months since your post made me aware of them. None bad, but a couple I might not choose again. I've got another on the shelf, 'From a Gaelic Sea Far Far Away...' which is a whisky cask aged Imperial stout in collaboration with another brewery. They have a couple of exclusives at Tesco and an exclusive at some Morrisons too, so not just the preserve of specialist bottle shops. There is a specialist bottle shop in Knutsford which is only a short distance from me which sells their brews. I might take a trip over tomorrow. I've just tried the Vault City peach and passion fruit. No wonder the Scots are so dour

I was surprised to find out that Butternut squash can be grown outside in this country. Unfortunately I don't currently have the space in my garden.

Unfortunately I don't currently have the space in my garden. ... and in your neck of the woods they will need that space because they will go like hell! I remember my first trip to South Devon in spring where I saw runner beans flowering at the top of the canes, when mine were still in pots in the greenhouse at home!

Pasta in a sauce made from garlicky roast butternut squash with spinach and pecans. It was specially made for the veggie in the house who was returning from two days at her sister's, but who didn't turn up until 10.45pm and had already eaten. So we'll be having it again tonight.

(Basic sauce = olive oil with a whole fresh red chilli (pierced in several places but not chopped up) and the chopped up stalks of some fresh basil, warmed for a few minutes, add a tin of tomatoes, raise heat to simmering point and leave for 20 minutes, stirring in the chopped fresh basil leaves at the end.

Nice. My go-to nut to accompany squash is walnut but might try pecans next time. One of my staples is cubed butternut, plenty of garlic, salt, pepper, chili or sage, and either spicy chorizo or diced pancetta, all roasted in a bit of rapeseed oil. Either served with pasta or as a risotto.
