The resident blackbirds have stripped the cherry tree of fruit. They've now turned their attention to the feral raspberry canes. Between them and the dogs I can't see me getting any for myself. I got some wild strawberrys earlier. Have never got a cherry, birds eat them in the green.

I got some wild strawberrys earlier. Have never got a cherry, birds eat them in the green. That takes me back. We used to forage, as kids growing up in rural Aberdeenshire for strawberries, raspberries and blaeberries. Most delivered to mums to make into jam.

SWMBO rushed into the bathroom (luckily I was doing my teeth) this morning to tell me that a swift had landed on one of our boxes and looked in! That's the closest we've had to nesting so far, so fingers crossed... It gets better, the neighbours have been watching out for swifts ever since we put the boxes up, and today they told SWMBO that they'd just seen one emerging from the box!

As we got back from ringing, two were investigating one of our boxes, and a couple of minutes later one flew in and did not emerge!

Four and twenty dark brown birds baked in a pie...
No, we waited for about 5 minutes, thwn went and celebrated with a beer in the garden. Wandering in after that, a puddock went "Plop!" in the pond - so a splendid night all round!

This was June 21 in 2018. I was sitting admiring the sea view on the cliff near South Stack on Anglesey when this Jackdaw came to share the view! It was quite odd having a wild bird approach. BV9R2342.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Last week spent some time in Cornwall. As usual involved a visit to craft centre in Mullion. Out back in a field are some wooly creatures either llamas or alpacas In the middle of some cut grass I thought I saw a puddy tat ( well I thought it was a wabbit) Never seen a buzzard on terra firma before! It was moved along and parked on a fence a little further away

Never seen a buzzard on terra firma before! They will feed on worms when they can.
