A real first for me. Spotted Flycatcher. I think this is a pair of adults rather than an adult and a [very mature] fledgeling with a second brood being incubated. According to the books the expected brood would have fledged and gone by late June. The ?male? was catching food from cover and I saw the flight. Every half-dozen flights he took a circuit that passed a tree root and this circuit seemed more predictable. It wasn't until I looked at the enlarged picture that I realised I had caught a nest. This was just a stretch the legs stroll hoping [with no great expectations] to see a Dipper, so very unexpected! This one June 24th - so last Saturday. We were down in Devon for a few days.

Grey Wagtail - June 25th. I've never before deleted so many out of focus shots! I'd got my feet on flat ground between some rocks and was really worried about falling over plus I had to twist to face the right way. Next time I take the longer lens. DSCF4488.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I did see a Dipper, the first one not just taking a fly-past on the Tavy. Unfortunately it was in deep shadow, a long way off and didn't hang around so a [photographically] disappointing result. Nice to see though! DSCF4530.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Another one of the spotted flycatcher. I was cross with myself because a lot [even ones I kept] are not sharp but this shows how small they are. DSCF4549.jpg by Pete, on Flickr That is a heavy crop on 400 mm [zoom] on APS-C. Unfortunately camera doesn't report distance to subject but this is across the river Tavy so I guess maybe 12 - 15 m. Too far any way. This one softer DSCF4538.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I find herons fascinating birds, something almost prehistoric about them. This one seems to be taking as much interest in me as I am of him. A tufty Anone know what this is ?

Uncontrolled Decent Proof that geese don't always get it right. I watch this Canada goose come into land on the pond and it went with an almighty splosh ! Fortunately it survived even if a little embarrassed

Edit - More seriously, might be a result of bird flu.

Thanks Mike, having a look at some pic's I think your right. There are some differences but that might be just local variations peculiar to Bushy Park

Outstanding afternoon at RSPB Ham Wall. Started with a probable White-tailed Eagle sighting (it wasn't a Buzzard, Kite, or Marsh Harrier. Most likely candidate was WTE, but no pictures and it was only in view for a few seconds.). Finished with a Bittern in flight and had up close Hobby hunt, Marsh Harriers as well as 12 species of butterflies and some decent dragonfly pics.
Photos later.

Simply wonderful! I'm somewhat envious. I spent an afternoon at our local RSPB last week and saw absolutely nothing except very brief glimpses of movement. I didn't take a single frame. I must move south!
