Good review of Nikon Z 8 from Andy Westlake except for one thing. A thousandth of a second is two short for photographing a propeller propelled aeroplane. On the plus side the propeller blades were not bent. He didn't comment on the 100-400 Nikkor but seemed to enjoy using it. I have disinterred this old comment because Andy has just reviewed the Sony Alpha A7CR and A7C II. He has been shooting aeroplanes again. His propellers are very nice shot at a two fiftieth of a second. Slower and they would have been near invisible, faster they would be too sharp. There's also more space in front of the aircraft than behind which is nice positioning. I like reviews where the pictures not only illustrate the technology of the equipment but the skills of the photographer. Incidently I have just noticed my spelling mistake in the original comment. The original comment should also have been in the magazine thread.

Two fiftieth? That the same as 1/25th? Wonder if the camera actually displays it that way.

My careless error. I meant 1/250th. Sorry about that.

What is really needed is a grammar checker that can spot misused or missing apostrophe's. Ideally a combined grammar checker and spelling in context checker. It would need to incorporate syntax checking. Perhaps this might be possible if there is enough language known to be good so as to train an AI system.

We're here because AP deleted the old forum saying it was due to their website being upgraded, and their forum software not being compatible with running a forum. Can't say that I have noticed any great improvement in their website since they shut their forum down, it looks broadly similar to how it looked before, and I don't see an earth-shattering improvement that justified ditching the forum. What do you all think? Forget the Forum being dropped. That is history. i looked at the new site the other day. Still doesn’t appeal to me but I suspect I am not the sought demographic. I generally only used the old site to access old reviews I half-remembered from the mag. I prefer “paper” to read. Disappointing article on fine art photography, equating it to time-lapse photography. I got the impression that magazine articles were being preprinted rather than reproduced after publication, although I didn’t compare the content word for word, the last mag edition was disappointing I thought, i didn’t read far into anything. I now read the magazine online and I use the word read very very loosely l skim rather than read and sometimes go weeks without looking. I get the magazine free online so it’s not costing me anything unlike when I had a subscription. It doesn’t hold me the same as it did a few years back I used to actually look forward to getting the magazine.

Film is going back to being a rich man/woman's preserve then? I wouldn't say that, I know a few people who are shooting film and doing their own developing/printing on a shoestring budget The shoestring budget would have to be very tight to compete with digital. I’m only a snapshot type nothing serious in my shops but I would love to shoot film but my budget and being in a wheelchair I can’t even attempt home developing etc. I can’t stand up anymore and it would exhaust me too much both physically and mentally.

I received my copy of AP today, I really should cancel my subscription, very little I want to read.

Today's front cover appears to be a teenage girl with a black eye. Quite why a brutalised child should make a suitable subject I don't know.
