Thanks to everyone who replied and I'd just like to say how much I appreciate everyone's input , your passion for Photography shines through - wish I could meet up with such genuine people . I suppose what it is ...is I'm being influenced by others' love of the D4 / D4s and think I'll get these marvellous colours out of its sensor whereas deep down I know the damn thing will be too heavy and my photography won't change a bit . The D4 is actually lighter than the D3, not by much but it is lighter.

My current upgrade plans are all associated with better storage. I shoot with a wide range of systems - digital cameras in 7 different crop sizes (from the Pentax Q to a Sony A7ii), use lenses in at least 20 different mounts and want to start making use of some of my film gear...
None of my cameras are less than 5 years old. On occasion I would see benefits from newer gear, but it would probably take a big lottery win for me to feel it worthwhile.

I've decided to break with tradition and give this one a name.
"Sweet".

I've decided to break with tradition and give this one a name. "Sweet". S I never really gave the FA much attention, back when the F301 and F501 were out we had a reasonable amount of FM FM2 FE and FA trade in cameras. The FM and FE s always sold quickly, often to people know to be waiting for good one, one phone call and they were gone. The used FA (s) would often sit on the shelf, perhaps the market we were selling to just wanted a smaller lighter second body to accompany the F3 they carried, Leopold's were the go to London Nikon dealer so they may have had a different experience to us but we both sold to the freelance press togs more than to amateurs.
Despite my ramblings, I hope the FA works out for you.

Back in November I succumbed to 'Black Friday' as I had a gift card running out of time and there were deals on... I bought myself a Canon R100. Not sure it qualifies as an 'upgrade' so much as a sideways step... It can do some things my DSLRs can't do but on the other hand it lacks some of the more complex features of it's more expensive brethren which in some ways makes it much simpler to get on with. Like so many tech items today it came without a printed manual, luckily it's sufficiently straightforward that I had few problems setting it up and getting to grips with using it - helped along by the built in help/info screens. Overall I rather like it and find it enjoyable to use though to make some things happen takes rather more button presses than is ideal...
