Have to say I'm tickled by the latest Muskrocket going bang and SpaceX describing it as a "rapid unscheduled disassembly". And today we have the Russians reporting an "abnormal release of aviation ammunition" - they've bombed their own city. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-65344370

Glad I probably wont get the alarm on my old Nokia C1 tomorrow. Isn’t it just an SMS text message and therefore come to all phones?

Glad I probably wont get the alarm on my old Nokia C1 tomorrow. Isn’t it just an SMS text message and therefore come to all phones? Don't know if what I've read is correct, but I believe this will happen: Millions of mobile phones and tablets across the UK will emit a loud alarm and vibrate at 3pm on Sunday in a nationwide test of the new public alert system. The message will be received on 4G and 5G mobile phones, along with sound and vibration for up to 10 seconds. The alarm will sound even if the device is set on silent. – Do I need to do anything? Phone users will be prompted to acknowledge the alert by swiping or clicking the message before being able to continue using their device.

Or you can just disable alerts.

There is an app called Emergency alerts that can be seen in Settings. The usual controls for permissions are greyed out. I assume that this is what will be used. The app has permission to access SMS and this permission can not be removed.

One of the reasons I dropped Virgin Mobile was they kept re-enabling the emergency alert setting after I had switched it off. Hopefully they don't still do that.

Isn’t it just an SMS text message and therefore come to all phones? Klaxon and vibrate alert, to all 4G & 5G connected phones, apparently. I only became aware of it because, last week coming back from Conwy, I saw an illuminated road sign on the A55 saying "emergency warning" and tomorrow's date (actually that was the second sign, the first was in Welsh). When I said I'd seen a peculiar road sign it was explained to me that a phone alert was scheduled for tomorrow. Given that many folk have an overpowering and irresistible urge to check their phones when they make a beeping noise I can imagine there will be carnage on the roads tomorrow afternoon. I haven't got a 4G phone so will be spared the interruption but I wonder what kind of noise a phone linked to a hands-free system will make? If I have to make a call I sometimes sit in the car. I'm quite deaf so I don't use phones for speaking unless I have to, and then only in a quiet environment so I can hear, but the car stereo system is very loud and works well. I'd jump out of my skin if I was driving along and a siren went off over it. Stay off the road tomorrow PM is my recommendation.

I can't see what the issue is with having the settings on for the emergency alert. As long as you are wearing your tin foil hat and stood in a bucket wearing rubber wellies, you'll be fine.
I'll keep mine on. Hopefully after the test it'll never sound again but I certainly have no issue with it.

Or you can just disable alerts. Thank you for the reminder.
