Following on from my last posts in WGYG, being able to do "girl talk" and not have to pretend to be some kind of a bloke which I've never believed in. It feels incredibly liberating. Obviously, you don't have to answer, but did any of your friends and family suspect how you were really feeling, seeing through the façade, as it were? It may have been blatantly obvious to everyone, but nothing was said to save yours and theirs embarrassment.

I don't think so, but I haven't asked them. I will next time we meet. An old friend* from the film club did say "we always thought you were a bit feminine" which made me laugh out loud.
* She's 93 and I've known her for yonks

Had my autumn booster jabs today at the Gyle shopping centre on the western edge of Edinburgh. Left in plenty of time but due to roadworks diversions arrived with just a few minutes to spare - maybe shouldn't have ignored the satnav and just gone the long way round - due South and then round the city bypass. Anyway. Got there, checked in and was pointed to the waiting area. Despite there being several people already there no sooner had my bum hit the seat than my name was called. Appointment was for 14:01 and I checked the time as I was leaving (to spend my 15 minutes before driving wandering around the shops) and it was 13:58. Last year I was taken reasonably quickly but had to drive out to Dunbar. The year before there was a very long queue to stand and shuffle in before I even got into to the vaccination centre.

I think the vaccination take-up rate must be low. We had the same experience, no-one there this year, long queue last year. We had to travel further than usual too, far fewer clinics showing in the booking process.

Requested GP for covid and flu jabs back in September, after waiting 6 weeks with no reply let alone visit I contacted Dorset health site, finally got covid 2 weeks ago and flu last week. Back in June I asked the GP why they had not provided my covid which ~I hads reequested weeks befoere to which they repied that they had run out of vaccine! Had to get somebody to give me a lift to a walk in Pharmacy. Are other GPs as useless? A few years back I started to loose my voice in September, went to GP, antibiotics - no result, so "lets try a fungicide" no result, finally in December with voice getting worse, they finalyt sent me to ENT, who stuck their viewing device up my nose to look at my throat, oops some sort of growth, come back in 2 weeks for us to do a biopsy; Oops its cancerous, booked in for an hour 5 days a week for 4 weeks for radio therapy, sorted voice back to normal. Compared to my previous GP who when I saw him for a throat problem immediately booked me for a clinic to do the up the nose for a look see - fungal infection - tablets for 2 weeks sorted. Oops should have posted this in Gear grinding! ( Thumb in bum - mind in neutral!)

My son was booked in today for Covid and flu jabs at a local pharmacy.
When we arrived, they had run out of flu vaccine but he had the Covid jab. They said we did phone you to let you know there was no flu vaccine left. When i checked the calls on the home phone, they called just a few minutes before the appointment while we were on our way there. Helpful? Don’t think so.

And surely, if a social worker had broken that news to you as they are concerned about a safeguarding issue, then that social worker should have followed up that call to check you are OK. All seems a bit odd. They did but it was all about things like do I need help to use the loo, can I dress myself, cook, get on a bus etc? Namely what used to be and as far as I know still is called "activities of daily living" I suggested to the social worker that they just assumed someone in there 60's had problems and it's stereotyping (I am now so mad about people making these assumptions for example if you're over 60 my local council invites you to visit a center where you can get a hot meal, benefits advice, gentle keep fit, a basic medical check and should your heart be able to stand the excitement (maybe better have that medical check first!) tea dances! The next borough tops that (and for the over 50's) with tea dances and taster bowls sessions! I'm not quite sure whether I should become an age awareness training consultant or a stand up comedian!) He agreed and when I said my plans still included working he asked what I did and I said "PA/EA/BSO/ medical secretary, admin generally" replied "That's very good you should contribute to society if you feel able" in really patronising tones

Reason to be cheerful or WGYG? Glass half full or half empty? I'll go for half full?
Had an email from OVO this afternoon, to say my latest bill was ready. Checked it and it seemed fair enough, and realised there was still time to get it posted off with a cheque this afternoon so I did so.
Only later did I realise I hadn't had the usual email earlier asking me for gas and electric readings. Perhaps, I thought, they'd actually been and taken readings themself. If so, it would be the first time since my account suddenly got switched to them from SSE about three years ago for reasons never explained to me. If they had been I wouldn't have known, as the electric meters are in a cupboard in the hall and the gas meters are outside. So I checked both and, although not mentioned on the bill, both are estimates. And estimated considerably above what I've used. So in three months' time, the coldest three months of the year, I'll get a bill I've already partly paid. A result, I suppose.

Picking up my enlargements (You! Yes, you there at the back! Stop sniggering!) From SnappySnaps and the woman serving me said "Oh, this one is amazing!". The other two look pretty fab at 12x18" as well, I wasn't prepared for how good they'd look. Pics 2,3 and 4 from this thread snappers-social-club.proboards.com/thread/1093/on-holidays and it was the moonrise that brought the comment. Going to need to buy a bigger hat... (Rovingmike would hate them, I'm sure, if he was still hanging round)

Interesting day... Trump's AG pick steps back because of *another* underage sex worker scandal, arrest warrants issued for Bibi and others, UK's deputy PM during illegal and immoral Iraq war dies, etc. Kind of the opposite of a slow news day. This is the RTBC thread, so make of that what you will.
