The first house we bought had an outside flush toilet, partitioned off at one end of the laundry. There was no power out there (the laundry had a coal fired copper), so I fitted a candlestick to make evening visits more bearable. After I'd jacked the house up and corrected the sinking foundations, the first job I did was to renew the bathroom, and fit an inside toilet.
