Yep, back on GMT/ UTC. Can we get rid of British Stupid Time permanently? But think of all the Aberdeen school children who's lives have been saved. Damn, we'll have to try something different

Met mum's new man last night (don't feel I can call him a boyfriend as they are both north of 70).
I had the same dilemma over terminology a few years ago, when my Mother got herself a new 'boyfriend'... in her mid/late 80s! However, the new situation was quite a tonic for her.
Best wishes to your Mum and her [insert appropriate description here] for some quality time together.

Partner always seems the right word for committed couples, regardless of age.

This plea to get rid of BST has cropped up every year since I looked at this forum and its predecessor!!

This plea to get rid of BST has cropped up every year since I looked at this forum and its predecessor!! Mick It seems to me that as many people would like BST all year as would like GMT all year. The only common denominator is that every commentator would like an end to changing the clocks.

Not quite true, Geoff. I don't.

I always have a grumble about the end of BST, but I do look forward to the start of BST as it’s a signal to end my hibernation.

OK then “ nearly every commentator”

Although it might have seemed so, my post wasn't simply contrarianism, on my part. As it happens, I do rather like the clock-change. I regard it as a sort of 'mini-event' that heralds the move from warm to cold, and then from cold to warm.
Or... if you live in the South-West: from damp, to very damp, and then back again.

Just paid my Road Tax (yes I know!). RTBC - As the car is rapidly approaching 6 years old it was £258 instead of £600. My simple arithmetic recons it should have been even cheaper but hey ho.

Met mum's new man last night (don't feel I can call him a boyfriend as they are both north of 70). He seems very pleasant and they've actually known of each other for decades as they were at school together. Given how low she can get since dad died, this can only be a good thing. My dad has a "friend", he still won't admit they're more than that, despite my mother passing away 17 years ago. It's quite sweet really as he dated Prudence as a teenager. She's also his brother's sister in law, so when they all go out together it looks like two sets of twins. That's funny as well as lovely!

It doesn't get dark until stupid o/c in summer, and adding an hour to that is a real PITA. Besides which my sequence software runs on UTC like all pro astronomy software. I think you won't find a single astronomer who has a good word for BST. Plenty of bad words though.
