Went to the Savill Garden this afternoon, there’s a sculpture walk so we took lots of photos. After dinner I down to my MacBook Pro via an XQD card reader, first camera no problem, second camera I couldn’t get the card to seat properly. Somewhat concerning as the cameras are discontinued and, although the parts may be common to the D5 and D6 a repair wouldn’t be cheap. It has to be worth a look in case it’s something stupid. Powerful torch and it is pretty obvious that there’s something in the slot. A prod with a cocktail stick reveals that it moves. Some gentle manipulation and inverting the camera and out it comes, the card seats and everything works. So, where did the object come from?Take the card back out and it’s obvious, a chunk of the casing is missing, strangely the object is said missing piece. Not entirely happy but the camera is OK. I’ve ordered a couple of replacement cards from MPB so this one can be retired. Now I’ll be examining my cards to see if any more are likely to shed bits in the cameras. Was it a standard card (CF, SD etc) or one of those funny proprietary ones? It’s an XQD card, physically identical to a CFexpress card, the only reason I didn’t replace it with a CFexpress card is that I would need to buy a new card reader.

Card readers are not expensive items. A good CFexpress reader is around £50 but it would be sensible to buy a dual XQD/CFexpress reader and they are rather more expensive, around £100 for a Sony one.

Scored free studded winter tyres for my bike...the exact make and model I'd been looking at and was considering spending £100 or so on. Now I just need snow and ice to try them out on

Saw a lad in Edinburgh take two runs down the steps that go to the bottom of Cockburn Street on his enduro mountain bike. Both clean runs but he'll need to true his front wheel, it didn't look happy!

Good. How did the pedestrians look? First run someone nearly walked into his path at the bottom and looked a tad astonished. Second run everyone was waiting with a run-off area cleared so it was just looks of wonder.

I have just bought a SanDisk 1TB Extreme microSDXC card +SD adapter, for £93 - delivered. Its U3 so would handle 4k video no problem.

Oh, another thing that made me smile was watching an elderly lady (estimating on her 70s at least) head banging to Status Quo in her car as she waited at traffic lights.

Quote from Spokes Lothian:-
In Scotland the 'pavement' is officially known as the 'footway. ' Cycling on a footway (pavement) is an offence under section 129(5) of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 and (for England / Wales) under section 72 of the Highways Act 1835. Rule 64 of the Highway Code states – “You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement.
I rather doubt that The Cockburn Street steps would be classed as anything other than a footway or that cycling on the Cockburn Street steps would be considered in any way legal.
