A letter from my pension provider. Headline: "Good news we owe you money" Body: about 8 pages telling me why they have been underpaying me for the last 20odd years. Some of it pretty technical. Getting excited now. Conclusion. We owe you £17.05. Mick I assume you are wise enough that we do not have to tell you not to spend it all in the one shop.

New back fridge was delivered on Tuesday - I had already worked out (by measuring) that a standard Gazzunder fridge would easily fit where the built in in the kitchen currently sits so no need to do a fridge excuse me just got it sat on top of the wee freezer and left it for its 4 hours before switching on. Thermostat adjustment is supersensitive but with some increasingly tiny nudges it is now registering 3.1 to 5.1 degrees on our max/min fridge thermometer. Front fridge is still a bit higher than ideal but milk and cheese are no longer going off and critical stuff goes in the back fridge so I am no longer feeling any sense of urgency re it. We have agreed that Maggy will no longer interfere with fridge thermostats - aye, right. I am going to have the rest of the week off!

I am told we have poltergeists for that.

Having changed the lower oven's bulb twice to no avail (obvi. the problem is deeper and therefor not going to be solved during the life of the oven) I re-set the oven's clock all by myself!

The glue-up of a piano bench I made worked. Every manufacturer of wood glue seems to have been making the setting time faster and faster. I had to get some stuff from America that had a long enough open time for me to glue up 8 joints prior to assembly.

Yes, though the supplier I found didn't sell that size and I had to get a bigger bottle. It [says it] has an open time of up to 20 mins whereas most wood glues now seem to claim an initial bond in 10 minutes or less. I made the "mistake" of cutting the mortices and tenons so that the tenons met at 45 degrees in the middle of each leg so all 8 joints had to be glued simultaneously. If I'd cut them shallower then there would have been no problem as I could have glued up two opposing sides first, let them dry, then complete the remaining two sides. That'll teach me to try to be clever.

Went to the Savill Garden this afternoon, there’s a sculpture walk so we took lots of photos. After dinner I down to my MacBook Pro via an XQD card reader, first camera no problem, second camera I couldn’t get the card to seat properly. Somewhat concerning as the cameras are discontinued and, although the parts may be common to the D5 and D6 a repair wouldn’t be cheap. It has to be worth a look in case it’s something stupid. Powerful torch and it is pretty obvious that there’s something in the slot. A prod with a cocktail stick reveals that it moves. Some gentle manipulation and inverting the camera and out it comes, the card seats and everything works. So, where did the object come from?Take the card back out and it’s obvious, a chunk of the casing is missing, strangely the object is said missing piece. Not entirely happy but the camera is OK.
I’ve ordered a couple of replacement cards from MPB so this one can be retired. Now I’ll be examining my cards to see if any more are likely to shed bits in the cameras.

Was it a standard card (CF, SD etc) or one of those funny proprietary ones?
