Oh, another thing that made me smile was watching an elderly lady (estimating on her 70s at least) head banging to Status Quo in her car as she waited at traffic lights. She may have been having a fit, poor thing.

Be careful what you wish for! Andy lives above the Edinburgh snow line. Sometimes anyway. The summer tyres are as good as slicks in the mud so not likely to be much cope in the snow and once the snow gets packed to ice it can get difficult to walk on never mind ride a bike. Hopefully these tyres will still give me a fighting chance of using the bike to get around town.

A good CFexpress reader is around £50 but it would be sensible to buy a dual XQD/CFexpress reader and they are rather more expensive, around £100 for a Sony one. I have just bought a SanDisk 1TB Extreme microSDXC card +SD adapter, for £93 - delivered. Its U3 so would handle 4k video no problem. I'm sure it would, unfortunately it wouldn't be any use to me as my cameras take two XQD/CFexpress cards a piece.

Not being superior I have made many decisions that I have regreted but if you buy into a proprietary (or semi proprietary - aka limited) eco system, you are going to pay for the privelege. Entering Cassablanca mode - maybe not today but...

The start of a beautiful friendship? Not with Sony cameras in my case.

Nothing “proprietary” about it, many current cameras use CFexpress cards. The models that have obscure cards are the Sony’s that use CFexpress A cards. The prices of CFexpress cards are falling but they are unlikely to ever be as cheap as SD cards. As it happens, this is the first problem I have had with an XQD card and it’s nothing to do with the technology, a self destructing casing can happen with any card.

CFexpress type B cards are quite standard now. I hadn't heard of XQD but, reading up on it, the CFexpress type B is a replacement and most cameras that were made to take XQD have had firmware updates that enable them to use the CFexpress type B protocols. The cards are physically the same. I've got one camera that takes a type B. The other slot takes an SD card.

I do not even bother sticking a CF in my 5DS any more I just use a fast high capacity SD in the other slot.
