I've never had a smartphone that only requires a touch of a button to end a call. They've all required you to hold a button and slide it across the screen. My phone just requires me to touch a button to end the call

you can choose to ignore phone calls...however most phone zombies are usually looking at messages or social media when I've been able to see what they're doing. The thing that annoys me with pedestrians actually using the phone for calls is the way that they don't hold the phones to their ears but have the speaker on so that all and sundry get to know their businessThe problem with smartphones is that they have touch screens - which means holding them to your ear can result in the untoward happening, ie your ear touching the red button and cutting you off.
A bit of a design flaw, imo.
Iβve not had that problem as far as I can remember. I donβt make or receive many calls but I think the screen displayed during a call has very few βsoftβ buttons that can be pressed either deliberately or accidentally. Only need to press a red button to end a call.

Hang on, ear touching the end call button? If the mic is at the bottom and speaker at the top (well, both really) how is your ear that close to the end call button? Also most smartphones use sensors to kill the screen when held to an ear.

Unrelated... Looked out the window last night and saw a bat on its travels. Always makes me happy to see them.

Iβve never had this problem. I think itβs because my ears are still in the correct position π OK, so it was probably the side of my jaw that did the touching. Depends on the size of the phone, I suppose. Or whether you are a hobbit or whatever.
And, it would appear, the real problem with smart phones is the number of arguments they cause on internet forums!

We never argued over cordless landline phones.

We never argued over cordless landline phones. Nor indeed corded ones
