The gloriously-named Hamish De Bretton-Gordon has had an opinion piece published in which he suggests that 18 year-olds should see national service as a way to thank and repay their debt to the nation for the support they received 4 years ago under the covid furlough scheme. If only his IQ matched the Scrabble score of his name huh.
By my reckoning, the Scrabble score for handbag is 14 points (or 6 ). Yes, that's right, but my point still stands!

As a counterpoint to my WGYG
Yodel told me to contact the seller namely expecting them and me to run around to fix the mess they had made
I emailed them and within minutes was sent a form to fill in and send back just stating I had not had the parcel
Five minutes later they came back and said they'd marked it as "undelievered" and would I like a refund or a replacement. I opted for a refund because it's an item of clothing that I am not sure will fit anyway
Less than 10 minutes after they sent me the form they told me they are processing the refund
Customer service done right by Evans!

Love the Beeb correspondent... " Donald Trump returning to court to find out if he's a criminal... " He (Trump) must be the only one who didn't know...

I suspect that many Trump supporters will regard the verdict as a badge of honour. At one level I am glad to be not American. Then I wonder if we are any better off. Marginally Trump v Biden is worse than Sharmer v Sunak. Europe is just as bad with the far (near ultra) right in Italy and Germany.

Iām not sure this is a reason to be cheerful, it opens a whole new can of worms for the USA. A country already deeply partisan and divided. One side will see it as vindication and the other as a conspiracy, it will do nothing for many and could lead to any number of disputes. Whatever the verdict it was always going to be divisive.

There are more cases to come and one of them, about the Capitol riot is serious.

There was an american pundit interviewed last night who reconed that there were a large number of undecideds who would decide against trump if (now when) found guilty. One of the things that worries me about the US is the possibility of a catalyst resulting in disintigration into civil wars the "s" is deliberate. Your Attention Please - anyone?

One of the things that worries me about the US is the possibility of a catalyst resulting in disintigration into civil war s the "s" is deliberate. Your Attention Please - anyone? It was bad enough when the "aid" for Ukraine was held up on party/partisan lines, now there's Israel and wherever that's going. For far too long the world seems to have relied on the US to act as some form of "enforcer" to keep the "peace". If they can't do that at home what hope is there for the rest of the world... Probably more hope of less interference...

I read somewhere that the USA is not high on the democratic index. What concerns me generally is that in many āWesternā democracies political leaders are extremely wealthy which, to my way of thinking, makes them disconnected from the vast majority of the people they āserveā. Of course the process demands that candidates can support themselves financially whilst running for office, political campaigning and earning a living being incompatible. When people feel strongly enough about something, and the politicians arenāt listening, thereās always a risk of violence. Add in āspecial interestā groups that have sufficient influence to prevent the politicians from doing what the people want and the risks increase.

In a poll quoted on TV last night, it was said that 7% of Republicans were "less likely" to vote for Trump if he was convicted. If that's the case, it was said that it will make a huge difference in the so=called swing states.

As in a certain RS saying "We have lots of different types of bread at home" at a time when some people were struggling to afford one type When I heard that I thought Marie Antionette is supposed to have said "Let them eat cake" and he was saying "Let them eat sourdough"

Love the Beeb correspondent... " Donald Trump returning to court to find out if he's a criminal... " He (Trump) must be the only one who didn't know... Reminds me of when Rolf Harris was sentenced I had visions of the judge saying "Do you know what is it yet?"

I was whistling to my self today and suddenly realised I was whistling "Nellie the elephant" and it then became "Donnie the elephant packed his trunk and said goodbye to the circus".
