I'm obviously a hipster, because when I pick a pub they usually serve beer in schooners not pints. Beer in a sherry glass? It's Buckie that is served by the pint.

The gloriously-named Hamish De Bretton-Gordon has had an opinion piece published in which he suggests that 18 year-olds should see national service as a way to thank and repay their debt to the nation for the support they received 4 years ago under the covid furlough scheme.
If only his IQ matched the Scrabble score of his name huh.

Youngsters being failed by the education system isn’t a new phenomenon. Back in the 1960s the system was biased towards the academically gifted, if you didn’t have an academic bent you weren’t worth the effort, or so it felt at the time. At my school, if you didn’t do well at French you couldn’t do German, I have some German ancestry and would have much preferred to learn German. I wasn’t top at anything at school but got really good grades as an apprentice because I was doing something that interested me. How many school “drop outs” would shine if they were doing something that engaged their attention? We need to shift from being academically focused to being flexible in educating children. Exam results don’t define a person, despite what governments of all shades believe.

If 'spoons has better food than other places, how shite is their food? Try £12-£15 for soggy pizza, £10.50 for an indifferent burger with catering pack French fries and a small portion at that

if you didn’t have an academic bent you weren’t worth the effort, or so it felt at the time. Much the same with me I failed the 11+ and ended up in a secondary modern where as it was an all girls school the overall pervading message was the only success we could expect was to marry some guy with a good job and become a housewife and mother It's surprising or maybe not that the brightest girls (And me) dropped out and went to the local technical college and did things like A levels and vocational courses and well.... One girl who wanted to become a nurse and was told she might make it as a ward cleaner ended up a matron The girl who was told whilst she was plainly good with a needle that would only be good for darning hubby's socks got into art school and now is a wardrobe mistress in the West End

By my reckoning, the Scrabble score for handbag is 14 points (or 6 ).

I've taken my last dose of covid antiviral. Now I'm looking forward to things tasting normal - the drugs leave your mouth feeling like you've just finished a strong, bitter black coffee.
