I'm reading Frankie Boyle's first novel (Meantime) as it was a Christmas gift. I have only read the first forty or so pages so far and although I will finish it, it strikes me that he's basically written it so that he can use offensive descriptions of people without actually causing any offence to real people this time. Face like a haunted paper bag was perhaps my favourite so far. Not sure the 'content' of the book is going to be as gripping as wondering who he would have used that for if he wasn't now being all well behaved in public.

I recently read the Match by Harlan Coben which I enjoyed and Twelve Secrets by Robert Gold (a Richard and Judy recommended book). What a pile of crap that book was. I didn't even bother giving it to my wife to read and threw it in the bin after finishing it.

Just got "The Big Sky" by Dean Koontz for my kindle, 99p. I also went to get Stephen King, Fairy Tale, too. Kindle £12.99, paperback £8.79 and hardback £8.00 Might as well get it in hardback I guess, certainly no point in paying for the kindle version.

My policy is to wait, quite often books that were £9.99 end up on offer at £0.99 which is when I buy them.

In terms of books, I'm not, really. I'm actually researching camera manufacturer stuff. About time I read a proper book again...

I put Frankie Boyle's book down somewhere and now I can't find it. I'm reading something called Shylock Is My Name that I found in the charity shop. Good so far. Retelling of The Merchant of Venice

I finished the book by Dean Koontz. Thank god it was only 99p. What a crap book that was. I have now finished Michael Connelly's "The Dark Hour " a Harry Bosch book. I enjoyed that. Now just about to start "Girl, forgotten" by Karin Slaughter.
My kindle battery doesn't last very long anymore which is a bit annoying.

I found the FB book back in my bookshelf. Maybe I'll pick it up again later. I also found a copy of A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara that I got for £3 in our local WHSmith sale rack. I really enjoyed The People In The Trees so I'm sort of reading this as well as the Shylock one.

Re-reading Tom Holt's "Flying Dutch". He uses various names to write different genres. Under Tom Holt he writes comic novels often using existing myths/non judeic religious stories. Flying dutch uses the "Flying Dutchman" as a starting point - surprise, surprise. At his best his use of narrative language is excellent. In addition to the above my favoutites are "Whose Afraid of Beowolf" and "Expecting Someone Taller". "Paint Your Dragon" is also good.
