Following on from my response in the Word Association thread, what are the random cultural references from your youth that stuck in your mind for no apparent reason. The monologue from the start of American sci-fi show "Project UFO" has lived with me my whole life.

I’m at a quandary as to what the music reminds me of? There is a rift that made me think of an old American 🇺🇸 tv show the name is on the tip of my tongue but I can’t get its name. 😟🤔😞

I have never heard of that show, let alone seen it before.

I have never heard of that show, let alone seen it before. It was the sort of thing they stuck on TV during the school holidays/Sunday mornings when we were kids. Quite why I remember the monologue so well when I can't remember anything about the show other than it featured USAF people investigating UFO sightings.

Ahh, that is because I wasn't allowed to watch TV during my holidays as I was working down t'pit. Not that made much difference as we didn't have a TV in the cave anyway.

If I've understood you, the one I think sums up the wee frees so well is the Reverend I M Jolly and his New Year homiles. We can laugh at ourselves - well, most of us atheists anyway.

The only culture they encourage is on a petri dish. Well certainly anything that saved them from having to have sex would probably be approved of - in a we do not talk of such things kind of way. every birth is a miracle - unless of course the parents are not married. Probably acceptable if they are married to other people just as long as they are actually married.

Strangely, I wasn't making any religious allusions, but intending to suggest no interest in things beyond sport and TV soap operas.

Strangely, I wasn't making any religious allusions, but intending to suggest no interest in things beyond sport and TV soap operas. In a broad sense, that is culture, as well.
