Strangely, I wasn't making any religious allusions, but intending to suggest no interest in things beyond sport and TV soap operas. In a broad sense, that is culture, as well. A quick online search for 'culture' provides so many different meanings and interpretations that any meaningful use of the term is pointless. It can be used for whatever social group, belief, arts interest, etc. that the writer chooses it to mean. Consequently, 'football culture' is no longer an oxymoron but an example of the use of it.

It's only ever been oxymoronic to people who struggle with the use of the word.

Football culture is a synonym for athletes foot, right? Don't knock athlete's foot. It's the closest I've ever got to being an athlete!

If I've understood you, the one I think sums up the wee frees so well is the Reverend I M Jolly and his New Year homiles. We can laugh at ourselves - well, most of us atheists anyway. I think I'd have enjoyed Scotch & Wry if I hadn't been brought up in Essex. If it was any dryer, you could put it on roofs.

I’m at a quandary as to what the music reminds me of? There is a rift that made me think of an old American 🇺🇸 tv show the name is on the tip of my tongue but I can’t get its name. 😟🤔😞 I thought exactly the same and also can't quite put my finger on it. The A Team?
