Watching so others can watch 274A6218.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Dunno why they bother adding video to stills cameras - do it properly I say.

Watching from above DSCF7349.jpg by Pete, on Flickr That is a video camera, watching Chester Races for outside broadcast - most certainly not a small drone.

Thought I'd reprise the big cat crop but he isn't looking straight to camera and the pixel count is a bit low. BV9R0329-Enhanced-NR.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Here's looking at you, kid. BV9R2375.jpg by Pete, on Flickr I didn't think it would take the crop. Birdwatchers on the steps to South Stack lighthouse taken from the RSPB office vantage point which is opposite. Birds to see perched on the cliff are mainly guillemots and razorbills with the occasional puffin.

I wondered what to put for this. My "longest" lens combination is a 500 + x1.4 converter which gives a focal length of 700 mm. I use it on an APS-H camera which give as a cropped or expanded (depends on how you interpret it) viewfinder view and recorded image view of x1.3 compared to 35 mm but doesn't actually affect the image produced by the lens. The picture below is uncropped from the camera so is a x1.3 (linear) crop on 35 mm. It is a straight view across RSPB Burton Mere taken from just outside the reception area. On google earth I used the ruler to estimate the distances. The far wall is ~1,150 m away and the bird hide ~ 450 m away. The wall has a standard gate so it is probably getting on for 5' tall. I was just leaving (car park closes) having been in the hide for a while when I looked back and saw the marsh harrier which actually came quite close to the hide windows. BV9R3344.jpg by Pete, on Flickr I use a 150-600 mm zoom on APS-C which is the next longest focal length although in practical terms the view finder and recorded image benefit from the x1.5 crop. I usually crop pictures taken with that quite heavily and I can't off-hand think of an equivalent [to the above] landscape taken with it.
