We went to visit friends this weekend and went to the Affordable Art Fair in Battersea park (I think the word affordable is the same definition when applied to housing, as some stuff was far from!) but none the less we got a great original ceramic sculpture of medusa's head. it really is a stunning piece. IMG_7247 by Nigel G, on Flickr On the way home, we stopped in Dudley to go to an artists house/studio. We saw some of his art in a gallery a few years ago, so we made contact with him directly and he invited us to his house. The house/studio was exactly as you'd expect an artists place to look like! We bought 3 original pieces from him too. A gallery takes 50% of the sale price for an artists work, so in effect we got them for 1/2 of what we would have paid in a gallery had we bought there. They look great on our walls (after we'd moved some others to other places). I accept that they will not be to everyones taste, but we don't do pretty landscapes etc!! Wow that’s really good 👍 and to buy direct from the artist is the way to really support them . My Son in Law now rents a gallery for his exhibitions it works out less expensive.

It's always nice to meet the artist being the creation. We've been visiting an artist in Cornwall for over 20 years, he had started out doing one particular kind of picture, which we both liked, but he has since been to college and expanded his repertoire into what some may call more mainstream. We still pop in and say hello.

The head - hmm, no, not for me, but the paintings are great.

I like the head. Does that make me look a freak? Buying direct from artists is a very fine way of supporting artists. And of course if you do it right your great great grand children make a bomb. Just make sure that your artistic purchases stay in the family for at least a 100 years after you are gone. Assuming that you have a proper lawyer doing your will then that will not be a problem.

I can't see the stuff that we buy being worth very much and the chances of having grand children let alone great great grandchildren is about zero.

I love the paintings and like the way the frames suit the art. I love to see someone matching a frame to a picture instead of the ubiquitous black. The head. Hmm. Not sure I'd have bought that but in the right place it is a great piece of work.

The pictures are OK but to me the Medusa is brilliant. Also I like the posh wallpaper on the wall upon you have hung one of the pictures. Have you conned me or is it a rather classy hand printed silk screen print.

Quite like the pictures but love the medusa I have supported a local artist over the years on and off and have the biggest single collection of her original works in the World (13 and hoping to get number 14 early next year) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maryam_Hashemi

When it is dark with just the below light is on, it looks quite scary IMG_7249 by Nigel G, on Flickr IMG_7250 by Nigel G, on Flickr

Love the medusa - that's brilliant! And the first of those three pictures is really haunting - in a good way.

We used to go every year getting free tickets and did purchase our rats from there after visiting the sculpturers studio in Alton to select our favourites. An even better day out now the Power Station is up and going. Attachments:

We used to go every year getting free tickets and did purchase our rats from there after visiting the sculpturers studio in Alton to select our favourites. An even better day out now the Power Station is up and going. We intended to walk up to the power station, leaving the car in the car park in the park, but we didn't have time unfortunately. Last time I was in Battersea, the power station hadn't quite opened. The friends we went with got free tickets for the 4 of us from an artist they have bought from before.
