I gave you a like for that Kate although I know that we are both a bit naive on this issue. An island should not be partitioned. That goes equally for Ireland and Britain.

No shooting at people please(as much as it might be a mercy to all concerned), shouting might be acceptable if it's not done too loudly or aggressively

There is one obvious way to stop it. Pull out of NI. It should never have been separated. True, at least then they'd be Dublin's problem... I can't help but see groups of people will always be targets for those not in the group or state or nation. Such is our pathetic world. That's as may be but it's no justification not to give those known to be in danger as much protection as is available under the law...

Nearly 20 years ago, and out of work after 20 years in IT, I applied for an advertised civilian post of 'Hate Crime Database Administrator' (or something like that) with a large county police force. Naively I hoped that maturity and an understanding of what was required would be relevant. I found out later that the post existed to allow the police to hire somebody who would help them fill their racial minorities and disabled employees quotas, and that the post had been taken by a lady who allowed them to tick both boxes. She had no relevant experience and had to learn 'on the job'. Perhaps it was somebody like that who decided to keep confidential information of the Northern Ireland Police on spreadsheets. Quick, easy, and about as secure as a sandcastle.

Perhaps the person like that was told to do it that way as it would be easy to share the information as required and necessary My money would still be on quick and easy. On a real software system with properly designed databases, an experienced programmer or user could write a simple programme to select only specific parts of the information held, and the results would be checked before passing the report or summary extract copied ( only then) to a spreadsheet for passing to the organisation that had made the request. This process would, of course, require some expertise and hence additional cost.

It would be interesting to know how you "found out" that information, and would allow us to decide how much credibility to give the story.

Now that I agree with. However the orange groups have always been equally dangerous. They would become Ireland's problem. A very destructive problem. Given the progress of Sinn Fein in the last round of elections unification might still be a possibility in the next few years, however the gangsters on both sides need to be dealt with.
