I don't have any photos from my personal longest days (a 16 hour day without breaks & the occasions at uni when I stayed up all night) Here are a couple for the archives both taken on june 21st so close to the solstice in their respective years: River at Bernard Castle by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr Witby Footpath tilted by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr Both of these taken while I was visiting Yorkshire for the BTCC, after the racing was over.

I had to go back to 2019 to find any images taken on the exact day. Wembly 2019 IMG_3139edit2023 by Keith Hudson, on Flickr Obviously not such a sunny day as we are having in London on the same day this year.

Crops Well I stymied myself with this word. No crops nearby unless I consider grass to be one - lawn grass, that is. My neighbour has this weird plant growing in one of her flower beds. We are not sure if it came with the wild flower seeds or, as I suggested, maybe someone had a crafty smoke over there. Her photo ID for the plant says Monkshood, but I asked the colour of the flowers and she thinks it is coming out white. Quite a tall plant which we are now nervous of even pulling out! I must get her to email a picture I can post here and maybe you can identify it. Anyway - a crop, the best I came up with before going to bed. ap crop hull shadow by Kate Ferris, on Flickr

As a photographer I often end up cropping images. So often that I can't usually remember if it was cropped, but I know this one was to about 25% of its original size: Barn owl with shrew by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr And this one must have been cropped as I haven't used a square format camera in nearly 40 years: NEPW - P1080495 small by Mike Kanssen, on Flickr 2 compositional crops should be enough to qualify

Leaving aside cropped photos, instances of which are legion, I wasn't expecting to find anything because we don't walk farmland where crops are growing and I haven't yet figured out how to carry a camera on the bike when riding with the club - they'd be miles off before they figured out that I had stopped. Anyway - from the unexpected direction of the Shrewsbury Steam Fair of 2019: Cropping the crop with a cropping machine 274A0404.jpg by Pete, on Flickr A [fractionally] cropped crop. 274A0410.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Must have been fun determining how much cropping each cropping contester could do so as to leave enough over for the last one.

Happy to report my peas are flowering. I sowed them a bit late. just for a bit of fun, but they are surprising me. Hopefully I'll get a crop of peas before winter!
