Only discovered Sigor Ros in the last couple of years but very impressed. Apart from that, got a scottish tv channel music from the sixties on. Highlight so far, Eric Burden and the Animals - House of the Rising Sun. At 10 years old I had never heard anything remotely like it. Currently playing, The Stones - This is the Evening of the Day. I used to hate House of the Rising Sun. When I was at FE college it was played all of the time in the common room, which was mainly occupied by "The Smellies" the rocker types who were the engineering students. The other song that never seemed to be off the juke box was Silver Machine. It always wound them up when asked why they were singing "I've got a Sewing Machine" I don't mind either now I am older.

AFAIK the original House of the Rising Sun was a real place, a bordello on Conti Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans

Re house of rising Sun. Amazing version. Unfortunately does not seem to be available for purchase currently. As well as the voice some very nice slide guitar.

Some NIN now. Heard this song many times, first time seeing the video though. No wonder it was censored for TV when it was released (according to one of the posted comments) Edit And I see you have to sig in to see it. the song is "Closer"
And the obvious link to Johnny Cash (although this is the original).

Joe Pass - For Django. The Wing man is John Pissano. Sometimes wish instead of buying a second hand Eastman Pagelli I had bought a second hand Eastman John Pissano - because each and every one was signed off by Mr. P.
Now on track 3 my favourite tune of all time Nuages. Cannot vouch for the linked version cos it is live not the one I am listening to. I very much doubt it is bad and will listen another time.

That Django reminds me so much of my late father. I am sure I have seen some sheet music relating to Django somewhere (I have loads of music books that my day had). My dad was quite a good guitarist/banjo player and used to play in a jazz band when he was younger. It is a shame I don't have any of his musical genes in me! I do have his banjo though.

Here is one of Django himself playing Nuages in 1953 not long before his death. My favourite version. As it happens, Django started off as a banjo player till he damaged his left hand in a caravan fire. As he was left with full functionality of only his first and second fingers of his left hand he switched to guitar as the tuning made it easier to play melodies with only two fingers.

Gotye with Kimbra - Somebody that I used to know.
Had never heard of either of them but a friend posted the youtube link on facebook. Brilliant pop song and one of the best pop videos as art I have ever seen.
I believe they are both New Zealanders So John F may have heard of one or both.
