The latest M&S TV advert (titled, apparently, "Anything but ordinary") uses, as the background music, OMD's Enola Gay.
Well, Enola Gay's most famous mission was anything but ordinary, I suppose...

As far as I am aware Enola Gay flew only one mission.

According to wonkypedia Enola Gay had flown two live bombing missions prior to Hiroshima, and was the weather plane for the 2nd atomic strike.

There is currently a TV ad for Secret Escapes (holiday company) where two people at some resort are discussing how much they could have saved if they had used them. The husband, iirc, says something like "You mean we could have brought Toby?". Cut to a dimly lit room with a despondent looking small child staring at a framed picture in his hands, presumably of his parents, while some child minder asks if he is OK.
What sort of advertising clod thought "Use Secret Escapes - it stops you showing what a complete bastard you are" was a good way to go?

One or two adverts over the years have used the shaming tactic, shameful

I remember the pork advert - "Got what it takes my wife" being particularly nauseating. I think the secret escapes one is just having a bit of fun with the idea that parents would (sometimes) love to get a holiday away from their kids.

The fun police will be knocking at your door soon, lest you offend or upset a person in the name of humour.

Yes, however the intention is for you to use the company, not remember to not use them!

I believe that advertisers' maxim is "It's better to be hated than ignored".
