As for what is going on in Scotland, “something is rotten in the state of Denmark”. I think maybe that the islanders of Faroe are happier with Denmark than Hebrideans are with Scotland. Perhaps kate might make a more informed comment. |

Perhaps kate might make a more informed comment. The cynic in me says that few politicians genuinely have the welfare of those they govern as their first priority. Being the capitalist West, first and foremost is money. How much can they gain and how little they can spend to appease the masses prior to election time. I feel as estranged from Edinburgh politics as I do from Westminster. As self-defence, I and many Islanders find it easier to ignore their actions and to just try to get on with living as pleasantly as possible. Watching from afar as I do, it is easy to see the slippery slope they all take, bringing in Laws and doing away with the rights of freedom of speech and actions. Sadly this goes as much re the Scottish Parliament as in Westminster. For me, Government should be from people with the passion to do 'the right' things, To actually represent those who voted them in. It should not be a place where politicians should be able to buy themselves into positions where money and influence and corruption are accepted norms. The answer? The death of a society where wealth rules and anyone not aspiring to the same status is ridiculed and sidelined. |

I have to say I am pleased to see Sturgeon gone, and I think her suggestion that her resignation has nothing to do with the current debacle is disingenuous at best. Her unbelievably convenient memory lapses during the Hamilton inquiry painted her alongside Johnson in the honesty stakes as far as I am concerned, particularly as she was cleared by the opinion - not evidence - of one man whose salary came from the government of which she was the FM.
I also suspect that the current delay in any truly substantive information being released by the party, who must by now have got a much clearer idea of what went on, is having a devastating effect on the party membership, which was already in decline. The sooner people know what really went on, the sooner the party can attempt to restore trust. Right now, using the coming elections as a pseudo referendum for independence looks like spitting into the wind.
