A question for folk with Fujifilm X series cameras. What software comes with the camera, and what's the scope of raw development and editing without using paid for alternatives?

I can't say that I have ever looked because I use LR to integrate the Fuij and Canon files. Basically I connect a camera without caring what it is and the results go into LR. I now use 2x Canon and 3x Fuji.
I think cameras now ship*with a custom version of Capture One express (or similar name). It used to be a custom version of SilkyPix. There is a novel free software from Fuji that uses the camera's chip to do the processing. The raw file sits on the computer, there is a develop screen on the computer and the file gets sent to the camera and the results come back down the wire. Only fairly recent cameras are supported. It is called Fujifilm X raw studio. I don't see the point myself (it isn't exactly fast) but the genuine "fuji film simulations" for making jpgs are I think hardware implementations as opposed to pure software. The in-camera jpg production must rely on hardware for speed as it has to be so fast.
There is also software for configuring the camera (getting files off, saving settings) - X-aquire I think and there used to be a basic jpg editor - picture gallery type thing. Canon had similar but I've no interest.
*a quick search - it doesn't ship. Phase One supply it free as a taster.

Thanks Pete. There were several titles listed on a Fuji page I read so I wasn't sure what was up to date. I'm still on Lr 5.7ish not a subscription, so if I did get a Fuji I need to know how much to budget for software upgrades.

My mac can't run the latest LR because it needs GPU memory. I will have to change it soon. Windows machines also have a Win11 crunch. My "office" computer I just got win10 installed in January when support for 8.1 stopped but it won't run win 11. I'm procrastinating at the moment as to whether or not to move everything to one platform (personal&work) or keep separate. I've more or less stopped "earning" so possibly I won't "need" a windows platform beyond 2025 when Win 10 support stops.

My Fujifilm X-10 came with 'Raw File Converter powered by Silkypix'. It has a lot of tools for making bulk development adjustments, and also some weird items like 'Taste' and 'Cloakrooms' that I never delved into. The image manipulation menu items are as follows:-
Operation menu
Exposure bias tool, grey balance tool, skin colour tool, rotation tool, transverse chromatic aberration tool.
View menu
White balance, tone curve, highlight controller, fine colour controller, lens aberration controller, rotation/digital shift.
All I ever used it for was producing .tiffs and .jpegs. as it is not very intuitive - but of course, my software is dated 2014 so a lot will have changed since then.
The camera, on the other hand, is a little gem. I bought it as a 'keep in the car glove locker' camera and it served very well. The thing I love is that is an optical zoom viewfinder synched with the lens zoom, which more than made up for a rather clumsy and occasionally counter-intuitive (IMO) menu system.

My preference would be to keep using the version of Lr I have now, which frankly does everything I need better than any of those. I didn't like Raw Therapee, been a while since I tried Faststone, Darktable is ridiculously clunky, and I have and use Gimp for things Lr can't do. Any of them would represent a serious bottleneck in my process if relied on for regular/primary use.

Just an aside, the latest version of Rawtherapy deals with RAF files very well. No worms of old

B***er off then, you ungrateful b****rd. A more useful question might be... Any of those (or others) able to export as .dng ?

The only programs (IME) that export to DNG are LR and c1. (That's not to say that those are the only ones, of course)

OK zou - you may be in luck here, I'm not sure! I now use Capture One Pro for Sony, but I recall that back in the day there was also a Capture One for Fujifilm, so I went to the Fujifilm website to check it out. There was a 'Free download' link which I followed that took me to the Capture One website where I was able to download C1 v.23. Although it is a free download, I have a horrible feeling it is just a trial copy. I am debating whether or not to install it to see, but am nervous because I already have v.12 installed whicht does everything I want, and I might buggerup my current setup. I declined the upgrade from 12 to 20 (8 in 1? Yuk!) because the upgrade price jumped considerably, and my Sonys are ancient, anyway. If you get a version of C1 for Fujifilm with the camera, you are in clover. In respect of maintaining a high quality throughout the entire editing process it is the best I have used. I have moved all my catalogues from Lightroom to Capture One now. It has a demonic learning curve, bit it is well worth the effort - and the output formats are JPEG, DNG, JPEG 2000, JPEG QuickProof, Tiff, PSD, PNG and JPEG XR. I have read a couple of Fuji related web reviews that place C1 in the top spot. I have been unable to find out if there is any software in the current X box, let alone C1, which, regrettably, is pretty expensive now if not bundled.

Don't know whether free or not but there's something called Iridient which does file conversion.
