Just seen 3 Stone Curlews. Too far away for any photos though.

Have they reopened with new hides at Kailzie Gardens yet? Ps. You can take a bike on the number 62 bus

Very well spotted! The closest I've been to that situation was someone pointing out a grey partridge to me. How the heck they (or whoever it was) spotted it I don't know. It took me several if not more than 10 mins to find it with bins and someone pointing. Here it is as shot (uncropped) effective focal length 650 mm. BV9R1276.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

We now have baby sparrows in the garden, and a fleeting visit from a bullfinch today too.

A 100 m macro on full frame isn't the perfect equipment for birding but this juvenile goldfinch playing in a gutter was seriously cute. With a very big crop it can just be identified! 274A1649.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I had the most unbelievable experience whilst getting the cows in for milking. A buzzard stooped down and then flew alongside me on the quadbike, no more than 4 feet away. It stayed alongside me for a good 20 seconds+. Whether it was hoping I'd flush a baby rabbit or ground nesting game bird I have no idea. Certainly my closest experience with a wild raptor.

I've flushed buzzards from hedgerows when I've been cycling. The bike is pretty near silent so gives them a bit of a shock, reciprocated when they take off in a panic, but I've never been accompanied by one. Goldfinches will fly alongside the bike if there are good hedges each side. They seem quite happy to provide an escort for a few hundred yards.

Pleased to see these little fellows making a comeback. There's something very engaging watching house sparrows behaviour. Masters at catching insects in flight
