A rare sight as they only sing briefly in the spring. DUNNOCK SONG by Martin Bone, on Flickr That's lovely. Really shows the colours in what can appear quite a drab bird. I've only got one shot of one singing and that is dated March 18th 2016. I hadn't really thought about them only singing in the spring. If I remember correctly it is a very nice song.

Very nice indeed, Martin. While we didn't hear a dunnock today, we did get serenaded by a wren which was both lovely and unusual. No pics as I don't carry the mamba when hillwalking!

We were serenaded by many birds yesterday. Warblers that we couldn't see, long-tailed tits that were inmpossible to get a photo of, and a pair of blackcaps wooing each other.

Hopefully that means the migrants are moving north. I am hoping that next week will be good. This week is all wet and too windy! Plus schools out means too many bodies.

The house martins have arrived in numbers and the ospreys have been seen locally. The winter migrant waterfowl and waders are thin on the ground, but the summer birds are only just showing.

Seen a few swallows up here in the Lakes, won't be long before I need to get the swift calls playing again. The North lakes ospreys are back apparently, but on private land again.

No sign of migrants today - but a superfluity of Chiffchaffs. I think I'm now overdosed on them, but trying to photograph one overhead by leaning backwards and pointing the camera up was very good balancing practice! I'm very impressed by the Fuji 150-600 F8. A nice day in the sun at RSPB Conwy. More birdsong than of late but nothing much visible. I needed the exercise and hit my steps target for today. A very distant blackbird had me wondering what it was but now on the computer at 100% crop it is definitely a female blackbird and not what I thought. Light patch too high in the throat (is a pigmentation fault) and wrong habitat. Thumbs up for the cormorant and the kestrel. Ring-necked parakeets are best viewed through crosshairs in the UK (schedule 9 species).
