A bit more interesting. Hand-held 1/45s @ 900 mm effective. Image stabilisation is pretty good. Also a mild crop in post but this was fairly close as it was perched on a short landing stage. Can't beat a good shag!*
That looks very good indeed.
*OK, I know its a cormorant, but you think I'm letting an opportunity like that pass?

Went chiffchaff hunting with my new toy. Too windy - hear them but not see them. I was astounded to find that I had a "hit" but only later looking on the computer DSCF3144.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Now a first for me. Never seen one of these perched before, usually just a distant flash of colour, and although it hopped around a bit I got some shots. I probably wouldn't have seen it if it had been here to start with DSCF3210.jpg by Pete, on Flickr quite clear DSCF3175.jpg by Pete, on Flickr a bit harder ! DSCF3193.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Good effort, Pete, jays don't hang around when they know they are being watched.

Good effort, Pete, jays don't hang around when they know they are being watched. I was very lucky. We'd gone for a short walk in Ness Botanical Gardens and it had been useless birdwise. An unidentifiable blob in a tree against the sky turned out to be a blue tit [keeper with +2 stops in post] and the chiffchaffs had proved elusive. Then I saw what turned out to be the jay low down in a small tree. It was just presenting the front view, which is an understated buff colour from a distance, and I didn't identify it straight away. If I hadn't had the new lens to try out I might not have paid much notice. I wasn't carrying bins. It was a walk, carrying a camera just in case, not a proper expedition.

Yet another chiffchaff. This one was a bit more obliging than the others that I have spotted. This back at RSPB Conwy today DSCF3274.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Otherwise a rather fruitless if pleasant walk. Spring in the air for the tufted duck DSCF3319.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

I got some nice views of birds down by the river this last week or so. Favourite was a bullfinch from a few metres but the dog I had on the lead at the time wasn't for letting me get a steady shot off. Attachment Deleted
