My wife informs me we have been visited in the garden by lesser redpolls. I've seen her phone pictures which seem to support that but are not good resolution and she has told me she took photos with a proper camera too which I'll see when I get home. Very exciting!

Saw a sedge warbler (two) today - first time in ages DSCF7575.jpg by Pete, on Flickr Someone pointed this out to me as being a willow warbler but I'm sure it is a chiffchaff even though something was being differently melodious at the time. DSCF7605.jpg by Pete, on Flickr It was very back-lit so basically a silhoutte through bins. Photo shows legs are darker than the id book says for willow warbler. Also got some poor shots of Avocets - they were feeding and moving a lot, mostly with heads submerged DSCF7681.jpg by Pete, on Flickr

Presumably a lesser redpoll. I've never seen one.

Been hopeful for years of getting a shot of one of these. The out of the blue one turned up DS2_2553 by Stephen Hayto, on Flickr

I have only seen tree creepers when I have been without a camera. On my wish list too.

Had Tree Creepers at the Clan Donald Centre where I worked as a Gardener for 7 years [ changed its name to Armadale just as I was leaving ] - green woodpeckers too .
We've got a variety of birds in the garden - few years back I thought I'd spotted a pair of Goldfinches but they flew off so fast I wasn't sure - then last week I was sat outside with a cup of tea when I heard chirruping above - looked up to see 5 Goldfinches on the wires overhead - bought a feeder off a well known marketplace thingy which arrived next day - a plastic tube with 2 tiny holes either side - filled it with nyjer seeds and waited - on the 3rd day it was mobbed with Goldfinches , Chaffinches , Greenfinches and a Starling came to have a look too . I sat there watching them and I tell you it's better than any drug * , TV programme or what have you for relaxation purposes .
* Not that I'd know .

Not that I'll get a photo unless they use the box with the camera in, but THE SWIFTS ARE HERE!!! THE SWIFTS ARE BACK!!!
I'll freely admit to getting all tearful when I realised, I could hear faint calls and when I looked up about 10 were wheeling round high, high up. Just timed right too, the sparrows in the swift box can only be a day at most from fledging.
