waDSC03658 by David Spencer, on Flickr visited JohnY's Country Park where they have a bird hide to observe birds taking advantage of feeders or not as the case may be... It's a bit early for me but I might turn up if I am awake in time and the weather is reasonable.

Early for me as well! I'm up early the following week for the Oxford meet.

I had hopes today but little visible. Plus they seem to have felled the tree that housed the greater spotted woodpeckers nest last year, presumably the fact it was hollow 40' up was why they nested in it. Anyway - Goldfinch in a tree - about 3 stops of exposure compensation, it was silhouetted. Its amazing how similar their makings are to turtle doves as well.

Used to see them regularly when I was a kid in rural Lanarkshire. The only raptors we did see. Now when I am down that way regular sightings of Buzzards but no Kestrels. Wonder if the two things are related?

Wonder if the two things are related? The two things are both birds, so there's definitely a degree of relation between them pal. You're welcome.

Wonder if the two things are related? There's a Kestrel nest on one of my regular walks and I quite often see it hunting in the afternoons (about 3 fields along the road of the newish roundabout on the A702). Loads of Buzzards about there too and got a cracking close view of a single Crow chasing one off last week....bit further than spitting distance but certainly less than a stone's throw. That was just into the second empty field beyond that roundabout. Unfortunately the field I see the Kestrel hunting in and nesting alongside is due to become houses and I gather the only reason it isn't already "aspirational suburbia" is because of slow sales of the houses they have built.
