By the end of the day I may be looking for a new job. One of my colleagues has weedled his family into jobs on the farm. I had to give one of them a bollocking this morning resulting in dad kicking off. They have history of creating toxic workplaces before. I've informed my bosses I'm not going to tolerate it and I'll hand my notice in today if they don't resolve it. Should be an interesting meeting later this morning. I hope your boss stands by you,

Can be more beneficial financially to not resign but follow a formal grievance procedure. IIRC (and I may not) resigning rather scuppers an action for constructive. I hope it does not come to either and it gets resolved quickly in your favour.

My wife had to resign from her job and her union would have helped her pursue it if she wanted to.

The neighbouring council (Hillingdon) has recently spent some money on some electronic signs the type that detect the speed of approaching vehicles and flash the speed limit and Slow Down. I know why the signs are there and, to some extent, support their use. What is annoying me is that they are set up in such a way that they detect cars at some distance away. Thus the nearest one will detect a vehicle some 200m away flashing the sign at a vehicle, not exceeding the speed limit, that is much closer. Another, in a 20 limit zone, detects approaching vehicles that are quite legally doing over 20 as they approach the zone. Yet another displays 20 even though it is actually in a 30 zone.
Despite the fact that I have a HUD, when I see one of these signs light up, I always look at my speed even though I know I am within the speed limit. Clearly the reason for the 20 signs is the shopping area and relatively high number of pedestrians however, said pedestrians would be safer if the approaching driver/s weren't distracted by someone behind who may be doing nothing wrong.

Reply to Nige (have not get worked out how to show the post I am replying to). I should have been more precise and said can block access to an Employment Tribunal. It could have been that Mrs. Nige' Union was prepared to back Court action. Or, as I indicated I could simply have got it wrong.

Well I stuck to my guns knowing a herdsman with my skillset and experience is in high demand and I have legal cover through my wife's union. Basically both the father and son have received official verbal warnings and been left under no illusion that if they have to make a choice it wouldn't be me getting a P45. Given that one of my bosses wife's is an HR manager means everything was done above board.

Excellent! Edit - and well done for the accuracy of the apostrophe.

Knocking down an 18th century pub to build a road? Bloody vandals! The Air Balloon? All part of the plan to reduce miles driven by increasing road capacity and selling more cars. There's enough roads but too many bad drivers.

Knocking down an 18th century pub to build a road? Bloody vandals! Agreed, unfortunately it isn’t uncommon, one round here was on a corner so for safety it had to go. The “new” pub, around 50 years old, lacks the character of the old one but so does the area. There are a lot more houses a lot closer than 50 years ago, with the associated traffic. HS2 isn’t making it any nicer. The short route from here crosses HS2 three times, funnily enough we don’t go there. I looked at the location of the Air Balloon on the map and I have to say that some lateral thinking could save the pub and make for a better junction. The A417 pretty much doubles back on itself, cut the corner and move the junction South West and the pub is safe with a safer road too. The current plan doesn’t make sense, to me anyway.

If you think you can square that circle, good luck! Easy. Stop building more expensive infrastructure for cars and let folk sit in traffic while taxing every car on the road like it's an old range rover. Spend the money on policing so more than a tiny minority of rule breakers get caught. Ban sales of ICE cars much sooner than planned. Take space away from cars, particularly on street parking.
