That was partially why I didn't add a smilie. I wondered if people would believe it straight away. John bit almost immediately. I was right about him being a bit of a cad. How long before he does ditch her? The children are going to be the ultimate disadvantaged, and it isn't their fault.

Only the Tories would play Russian Roulette with 1 empty chamber and 5 loaded ones...

Not sure where this fits, so it can go here. Heading down to Hampshire for a cricket match, a few miles south of Hannington transmitter on the A339, just passed a field with many cows in, and a large mobile milking bail. I don't recall ever seeing one before.

The very one, Martin! I believe they were common back when God was a lad, but its the first I've ever seen in the metal.

Scored a free bike for Jasmine.... Half-decent suspension, hydraulic disc brakes and 27 gears. I'm guessing it would have been £600 or so new and doesn't appear to have seen much use...yet .

The very one, Martin! I believe they were common back when God was a lad, but its the first I've ever seen in the metal. I milked in one 30+ years ago, although not as fancy as that one. Roasting hot in summer, freezing cold in winter. I'm not sure I buy into their cows being "happier & healthier". I've milked a herd that out wintered and the cows spent their whole time lying on wet and muddy ground, or huddling around what ever shelter was available. They also poached up the ground horrendously, which is the main reason for housing cattle in winter. Contrary to what Kingsclere estate say, lameness was a big issue. Cows don't cope well with summer weather. Heat stress is a particular problem and our housing is a good 5°c cooler than outside and obviously shadier too.

There's a dairy farmer on YouTube that has loads of space for cows to roam but they choose to spend their time in a shed. Can't remember the breed but I think it was one that is well known for high milk yields. The people he inherited the farm off kept a different breed outside and didn't produce anywhere near as much milk.

Swedish Red x holstein are popular, as are Montbelliard. Dairy Shorthorn or Ayrshire would be my personal choice. Our holsteins graze by day, but they don't take much convincing to come in.

Having passed it on the way back, there's a very big boggy patch that I suspect Daisy et al have poached up, which can't do their feet much good. I vaguely recall that cows don't need to shiver until something nutty like -40C because of the heat they generate by fermentation, and that Jerseys are much more heat tolerant than bigger breeds but thats about the limit of my knowledge of cows and weather.

How long before he does ditch her? Or she ditches him? After all it's a bit of a come down from being able to pay your trendy friends thousands for wallpaper and shaking hands with royalty to living with an unemployed buffoon

Sadly he will make much more as an ex PM than he did as a PM.
