Being on the allotment on a dank foggy morning, trying to work out why I can't see the magpie that is calling, when finally I realise its a yaffle on a tree about 15m away. No black mamba to hand of course....
Then, later on being out there as the fog suddenly lifts and it turns into a gorgeous afternoon.

New Monitor. The old NEC died and needed replacing, The standby Samsung was $hit - not just the resolution (1080) but the colour balance which was complete pants. So I had to get the credit card out and got a 27 inch Asus ProArt PA278QV for £230 including delivery. It has a decent screen with a good colour balance (it comes with a calibration certificate) and also, someone has actually thought about the assembly.
The base attaches to the upright support by a simple screwthread, which is the type used in just about every camera tripod adaptor (with a flip down grip on the screw). I do wish more people would take some time to think about assembly and disassembly.
It's similar in resolution to the old NEC, WQHD rather than the more expensive 4K models. Although it is an older model in the ProArt range, it still has a USB hub and built in speakers, although the USB isn't version C. Quite happy so far.

I could be in the market for a new monitor. I was having all kinds of issues with the display which I put down to the monitor stuffing up the graphics card and on board graphics after having water ingress. I have the card working now since moving it to another slot that it's sitting in better and swapping the Acer 32" 4K for my old Dell Ultrasharp 2709. It was a good monitor in its day but only 1900 x 1200 res. Trouble is, I have a hankering after a QD-OLED, but they start north of £1k for a 32" jobby. I could try the Acer again but I really don't trust it.

I did have a 30 inch 2560x1600, but it was really too big for our room. I did need the replacement to the the same sort of dot-pitch size or thereabouts, and as I decided that a 27 inch was a good size compromise I certainly didn't want 4k - the extra pixels would make the menus in photoshop etc so damn small as to be unreadable. 2560x1440 is a good compromise on a 27 inch model. Asus do some higher range models in the ProArt range, with 4k and even 5k 99%-100% Adobe RGB capability. The newer ones also have better connectivity, but I wouldn't fancy trying to see any menu system on a 5k (5120 x 2880) 27 inch monitor unless my nose was pressed up against it!
This one has some tricks up it's sleeve including ruler and page (A4/A5) overlays, a ruler along the lower bezel and several standard colour profiles. I've yet to go through everything, but I think some will prove useful. It's a novelty to have speakers built in that run over HDMI and the ability (once I dig out a cable) to have USB ports in the back as well.

I had no trouble running AstroArt or PixInsight on the 32" 4K monitor. I don't have, or want Photoshop, and the raster size is great for inspecting my images. I do have Rawtherapee if I need to convert raw files and will, at some point, install the free version of DaVinci Resolve. The newer QD-OLED displays have 97+% Adobe RGB and 99% DCI-P3 colour spaces.
